@GON2BOJI: I don’t think you are in the wrong, I think they are. Unless your family (the ones paying for the wedding) have expressed concerns, then I think your daughter should get married whenever she pleases. I hope this all works out for you.

I don’t understand why people think that just because they get married, no one else can for at least a year. I think it would have been a little inconsiderate to choose August 18, but waiting until the next month seems fine to me. If my cousin were getting married the same summer as me, I would be excited to be able to go through the planning process together!

I can undedrstand the upset, for sure.  Some of the cousin’s thunder will be stolen, regardless of how much you try to avoid.  People will be talking about BOTH their weddings, and every bride just wants a day where she is the only one talked about.

Not to say they are in the right, but just giving a different view point on the matter.
