- Wedding: December 2010
I attended a family bbq over the holiday weekend with about 80 people there. Upon walking into the yard, people approached Fiance & I to hug & kiss us and inquire about wedding plans and tell us how much they are looking forward to our wedding.
It got me thinking… I am a “germophobe.” I do not like to be touched by most people, let alone kissed or hugged by them. I try my best not to shake hands with people and my immediate family members and close friends are well aware of my issue and normally will run a bit of interference for me so it isn’t quite so obvious to others.
So, how do I handle this at our wedding? I don’t want to offend FI’s relatives, but many of them are/will be strangers to me and I do not want them kissing and hugging on me. We are also having an open bar at the reception, which tends to make people more affectionate than usual and is making me very nervous.
Any other bees out there with similar issues? Can any married bees clue me in on how things were at their receptions? Any ideas on how to deal with this? I don’t want to spend half the night in the restroom washing my hands and face, nor do I want to slather on Purell after every interaction, but I know that having physical interaction with so many people will cause me stress and anxiety.
Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated (just keep your hands to yourself )
