My BMs and I are having our hair and make-up done at Swink Style Bar. I did hair & makeup there for my e-pics and was really pleased with the results. My trial for the wedding is this Saturday. They charge more than their regular rates for weddings plus a mandatory 20% gratuity but the rates are still great. They don’t come to you, but the salon is located downtown and it’s super cute.

@DCB667: I wouldn’t say that they are vintage or “old school” at all, unless you mean that it’s a salon that focuses on styling rather than cuts/color and women used to go get their hair styled a lot more frequently. But yes, they are normally $30 for hair or makeup, more expensive for weddings but I’ve been very pleased with how they’ve set everything up for me.

I’ll be going to Habitude in Ballard for hair.  I just had my hair trial and really liked it.  It is $75 for bride hair, $60 for updos, and $40 each for a bridesmaid and mom that are only having it blown out.  They also charge 20% gratuity for groups over 3.

Katie Cordery is a makeup artist and hair stylist who runs her one-woman business from her home in Greenlake, and was a great deal. She’ll do a bridal updo (including trial run) for $100, $35 per bridesmaid/mom hair, and $20 per person for makeup. She is a total sweetheart, came to us onsite for no extra charge, and stayed with us in the bridal suite for the entire morning and afternoon the day of the wedding making sure everything was perfect. I was thrilled with everything she did, both on me and on our moms and maids. She doesn’t have a website but here’s her email:

Regarding Swink, I had my boudoir hair styling done there, and it turned out great. I was super pleased.

OMG. Y’all. I did not realize how expensive hair and makeup was. Most places were quoting betweeo $200-300 for hair and makeup (and sometimes a fee for locations). For BMs, it was also somewhere between $75-100 just for hair! I couldn’t bring myself to ask my lovely BMs who were traveling here from all over to pay that much.

I luckily got my hair done for a wedding I went to at Swink Style Bar downtown. While I was there, I asked if they did wedding hair and make-up. And they do!

It is $160 for bridal hair and makeup (and includes one trial session). For BMs, its only $45 for hair, $30 additional for make-up. Their studio is super cute and the ladies are really friendly. Email them. Judy was really helpful!

I used Erin Skipley at Bellatrix Studio.  She’s amazing!  She’s strictly a “stylist” for magazines, brides, etc.  She’s super professional, talented, and you should see her two giant suitcases full of makeup.  She did not come cheap, but it was worth every penny to me.  I think I ended up paying around $600 total for my trial hair/MU and the day of service, and that was on location at 6am and included airbrushing and lashes.  I could not speak more highly of her.
