Hi bees! I just had my hair and makeup trial today, and need a bit of input. Here’s the sitch– I don’t wear a lot of makeup in real life, typically just a coat of mascara and some brow gel (I have crazy light brows). When it came to wedding day inspiration, I zeroed in on Christina Hendricks as we have similar coloring (redhead, pale skin, blue eyes). We’re having a formal Friday evening wedding, 10 days before Christmas; guys are in black tuxes and I’m wearing a champagne dress with ivory lace bolero (very vintage, 1920’s era feel).
I love what the MUA gave me. However, I’d like to change a couple of little things and want to make sure I’m on the right track…so ladies, help a clueless girl with her makeup, please?
I’m thinking the brows should be a touch darker, and the eyeliner should maybe be a bit thinner…I know it’s hard to see here but the line seemed so thick in person! This coming from the girl who can’t figure out eyeliner. 😉 Also, on the day of I want the hair to be a little softer around my forehead/temples…my face tends to photograph long and I think that’ll help soften things and keep a romantic, glamorous vibe. Yes? No? Would you think the eyeliner, or is it supposed to be thick? Leave the brows? *sigh*

@Sugar_and_Spice: I think it looks pretty great. I agree about making the eyebrows a little darker and the liner a bit thinner. Other than that, I don’t see problems.

How long has your mua been doing makeup? Brows should definitely be darker.. closer to your hair colour so it looks natural. Eyeliner should be thinner. Do you wear red often? I love red lips, but they’re extremely high maitenence, especially with kissing/hugging etc. Just a heads up 🙂

@Sugar_and_Spice: I agree that the eyebrows need to be darker and that the liner is either too heavy on the top or the bottom (I am thinking a bit of both but more the bottom). The lip color may not be the right shade, you can still do something bold but I don’t know if I love the color on you.
The hair is beautiful but I think something on the sides (like loose curls) would do the trick!
However, if you love it and you want it then I suggest you go for it! Nothing makes a bride look prettier than a true happy smile 🙂
Once you feel like you love your look then I would stick to your guns and refuse to change no matter what others say!

I agree on the brows and eyeliner. The red jumped out at me– personally I’d go for something softer.

Brow need a little attention, a little lighter on the liner.
And I also agree that that lip color might be too much on your face.

Glad we’re all on the same page with the brows. I like the boldness of the bright lip, but you’re all right that red may not be the shade to go with. Again, it’s hard for me to know because, well, pics make it easier to explain:

If anyone has any shade recommendations on the lips, I’d love them!

I agree on the brows – they should be darker, and more defined – and little less on the liner. I think you can definitely do red lips, but perhaps try something more orange/tomato-hued or even a russet red (like the reds Christina Hendricks favours). I’d also skip the gloss, a creamy/matte lip is definitely the way to go to avoid having to touch up every two minutes.

You are gorgeous! I never wore make up until I had a wedding to plan for and now I am so addicted to all the products the hive suggested (thanks Bees
I think once you have another try it will turn out perfect (it is great that there are easy fixes and it isn’t like the actual applying is wrong). Maybe try a copper color lip that is bold? Also your isnpirations aren’t very heavy on either the top OR bottom! Are you wearing any falsies? I would get lashes for the bottom lash line to give it a darker look without being to heavy. False lashes on the upper lash line would make the eye bolder without a need for dark heavy liner

I think you look perfect! Wow!!!

i agree about the lipcolour – go with a matte or satin finish instead of gloss. gloss is super high maintenance! maybe even a lip stain?
and i’d pump up your lashes a bit 🙂
i love your colouring 🙂

I think the eyeliner just needs some lashes and it wont look quite so thick. Brows def need to be darker. I don’t like the red lips, I think it is too over powering and takes away from your eyes.
I really like first inspiration pic.

I quite like the red lipstick in the second inspiration picture– I think b/c it’s slightly more matte than the one you’re wearing in your own pictures.
I also really like the lipstick Hendricks is wearing in the first inspiration picture.

Thanks for the advice (and wonderful compliments)! I’m actually wearing falsies in the pic, and if the eyeliner is overpowering them then I’ll definitely ask to tone it down. The lip color is actually pencil with a super-shiny gloss over it, so maybe I can find a stick gloss that gives just a bit of slick without the high shine… Also I think when I pop by the MAC store I’ll aske them to help me find a nude pink a la the first inspiration photo. Schedule a brow tint the week before so I don’t have to worry about shade, and I think we’ll be good to go.
Thanks for all the help! If anyone else has anything to add I’m all ears, but it seems we’ve got a handle on it now! 🙂
