Hi all, I’ve been on the hunt for a wedding day scent, and while in a Blue Mercury the other day I mentioned this to one of the clerks as I sampled Jo Malone, and she told me what she wore on her day (admittedly I don’t recall the name it was something I’ve never heard of :)). I’m getting close to settling on Mon Guerlain – every time I smell it, it reminds me of when we got engaged and all the excitement of envisioning my wedding. So I thought I’d ask what everyone wore or is thinking of wearing and how it makes you feel!
And my big question: how to I go about actually wearing perfume on my wedding day? I haven’t researched this yet but my gut is telling me I shouldn’t spray any perfume “on” the dress for risk of staining, yellowing, damaging the fabric (by “on”, even spraying out in the open then walking through it – is that less risk?). Any tips on how to apply and make the scent last? I feel like my scent fades fast on skin and I’m normally a daily sprayer on my jeans and sturdier fabrics, so I suddenly feel pretty dumb about this haha.

How exciting bee. I love it when a smell reminds you of something special.
I wore Victor & Rolf Bon Bon. I wear it every day pretty much and love it. My now husband adores it on me. I also tend to get migraines from most other perfumes so to me I was happy to stick with what I normally wear.
I actually can’t remember how I put it on, probably before I got dressed. I had an atomiser in my handbag but didn’t have any time to reapply. lol

I wore Patchouli 24 by Le Labo…also my everyday scent.
I don’t recall how I applied it..probably after I got dressed as usual. My perfume is pretty long lasting. Just one spray behind each ear and it lasts all day.

Well, if you want the scent to last longer, then I wouldn’t do Jo Malone. Jo Malone fragrances are cologne. Cologne and EDTs (eau de toilettes) have a lower concentration of fragrance and generally less staying power. You want an EDP (eau de parfum) or perfume oil for more lasting coverage. There are also things that tend to dissipate faster. Scents without strong base notes to anchor it down or scents that are primarily citrus and heavily top-note oriented, will dissipate faster.
Be careful what format you choose and dont assume the same name will be the same across formats. For example, the rollerball version of My Burberry is an EDT with slightly different notes and less lasting power than the EDP in the bottle which I love. Mon Guerlain also comes in EDP and EDT. The EDT is lighter, more floral and more top-note heavy than the EDP. Which version were you trying?
As for how to make scents last longer, usually layering helps. So if it is a scent that offers a shower gel and lotion in the same scent, using them to layer can help. Also just being moisturized. So if you don’t have the scented lotion version, use an unscented lotion to moisturize before applying. Also apply after you shower but before you get dressed. Apply to points that are unlikely to rub up against anything (for example the crook of your elbow rather than your wrists). Also remember that you get accustomed to the scent all day long, but others likely still smell it.
Overall I really like most of Guerlain’s offerings so you can’t go wrong there. YSL also puts out some great perfumes.
I’d pick something that I want to smell all day, is light enough to not overwhelm me, and not cloying. So for me that rules out notes like amber because I find it powdery and cloying as the day wears on and I find I just don’t get on with a lot of commercial perfumes version of patchouli or musk (I like patchoulil, but when all the top and middle notes wear down I find it a little hard to stomach at the end of the day unless it is from BPAL). I’d probably go to my personal tried and true scents that I love at every stage, which would be Clean Reserve Sel Santal or BPAL’s Alice. I want to be comfortable and familiar.

I did Gucci Bloom, my husband and I picked out scents for each other to wear on our day. I put mine on before I got in the dress. I sprayed my neck, wrists and the back of my knees. Then got in the dress!
FYI Sephora is having a big sale this weekend if you live in the US and you can get fragrance in sale as well!

My favorite and FH’s favorite as well is Light Blue by D&G. I love the smell of that! I plan to wear that on my wedding day. I think spraying and walking into it won’t hurt. I wouldn’t spray directing on your dress. 🙂

That’s so special bee, I love the idea of a signature perfume for the wedding 💕 I love that you’ve already found one that reminds you of your wedding excitement and it seems like a great choice to evoke wedding day memories for years to come 😊
I am planning to wear Jo Malone’s Tonka and Myrhh blend I think. I tried several others that they recommend to be more “bridal” (those were or all floral or citrus), but some of those gave me headaches and none quite felt like “me”. While I’m not choosing my everyday fragrance because I want something special for my wedding day (I envision wearing it on special dates or even just date nights in the future and reveling in wedding memories), Tonka and Myrhh is the same type of fragrance I’d normally wear.
I agree with the advice to layer if possible (possibly even just with the same base notes as long as the other elements you’re layering with are simple- for example, for everyday wear I have a patchouli, vanilla and orange lotion, patchouli and orange deodorant, and my light perfume is pathchouli and vanilla. All different brands, but as they’re all essential oil based and the same 3 notes run throughout, they work really well together. So if a main note in the perfume you like is jasmine, consider looking for a simple jasmine lotion). Otherwise, unscented lotion is also good for a moisturized base! I’d apply perfume before getting dressed (maybe already in lingerie though) and let dry. Possibly sprtiz a bit not ON your hair directly, but around your head too. As for considering different formulas, that depends what you’re going for. I prefer something lighter as I don’t want it to irritate guests with allergies or be overwhelming. I’d rather not be a walking cloud of scent so much as just to smell nice when someone hugs me or is standing very near/dancing with me. But if your wedding is more formal/glamorous, a bit stronger application of perfume in a stronger concentration would keep you feeling fancy and elegant all night.

So many things I hadn’t thought of, thank you so much! My bottle of Mon Guerlain is EDP and pretty much my dominant scent, but I also rotate in Miss Dior and Jean Paul Gaultier Classique, and Philosophy’s Grace when I want light and clean. I’m definitley going to look to do the layering, brilliant! And your tried and true scents look really interesting, I’ll check those out!

I wore COCO Mademoiselle by Chanel and my husband wore Bleu de Chanel (we had fun going shopping together for our wedding day scents and both loved the His and Hers Chanel!) Now every time I wear it I get reminded of the excitement of getting ready for our wedding day!
I applied mine lightly on the inside of my wrists and right behind my ears (those areas will be noticeable when you’re hugging people and it lasts longer but isn’t overwealming!)

I personally was going to wear the perfume my fiance had gotten me as a gift. They are rollerball perfumes. I was going to Dab it on my neck and wrists and although the scent may not be strong or last the whole night I was going to reapply it before the ceremony or reception. I decided on rollerball because I also did not want any chance of stains

I do not like perfume at all , and think it should be banned . I am allergic as many people are . Just a clean body ….

I wore Tom Ford’s “F*cking Fabulous”, which is one of the 4-5 perfume I regularly wear.
i spritzed it on before stepping into my dress and also sprayed some on a cotton ball to daub behind my ears and on my wrists.
