I am trying to figure out what to serve for the dessert at our wedding. There is the traditional cake of course, but personally I’m not much of a cake person. My Fiance says that even if we have another desserrt we should have a sheet cake because his family likes cake and wants that tradition. Another option is pie. I am known in my family as the pie lady and I always make pies for family events. I would love to make pie for the wedding (with some help of course), but our venue does not allow homemade food. We could get pies from costco that are suprisingly yummy and affordable. OR we could go with gelato. We are being catered by an Italian restaurant and they can add gelato to our package. Its more expensive than the other options, but also delicious! Plus, because my Fiance and I went to Italy on choir tour, it holds a special place in our hearts. So what do you think bees? Cake? Pie? Gelato?

Cake and gelato! I miss cake when it’s not served at a wedding.

@ladylyss: Cake and gelato! You can’t go wrong with that combo! Lots of my family hates cake so we were actually going to be serving mini pies on a stick as well.

@ladylyss: We are doing cake and pie! But I love the idea of gelato…do it!!!

Pie! I love pie but I don’t get to eat it very often so it would be awesome to get it at a wedding.

@ladylyss: I’m a cake lover so I voted for cake. How about a small cake for cutting and then gelato for the masses? The in-laws can have your cake scraps.

Thanks bees! I talked with my Fiance today and he is really loving the gelto idea. My mom even suggested instead cutting the cake we could scoop each other some gelato and feed it to each other. What do you think? Cheesy? Or a fun way to make the tradition our own?

@ladylyss: I’d get a sheet cake (for the cake people) and gelato, because no matter how full I might be after dinner, I somehow always, always, have room for gelato/ice cream afterwards… but that’s just me. Oh and because it has special meaning for you and your fiance as well, of course!
Just wanted to add that you now owe me a new keyboard for starting this thread because you just made me drool all over mine.

Honestly, I think pie would be the most rememberable. We are doing other desserts as well, but having a small cake to cut with some cupcakes to fill a cake display. It holds 60 cupcakes, but for 150 guest it is really more of a decoration, but it is there for people who really like cake at weddings
