I think reading their reviews is obviously the first step. To me, the most important thing is for him or her to be able to read the room and know what types of songs are appropriate for the moment. You don’t want fast paced music during dinner, but after dinner, knowing the songs that will get people up and dancing (if that’s the vibe you want) is really important.

Reviews and recommendations.
DJ willing to look at the songs that we like and accept to play some of them during the wedding.
Good communication.
Should respect to our do not play these songs list.

My FH found our DJ from using the ThumbTack app. You fill out a questionaire like your budget, your music preference, etc. and it will find the best result based on your survey. Its great! Our DJ is so nice and even got us some great discounts.
