I have paid a deposit and ordered a Mori Lee 2825 wedding dress for my June 2017 wedding in Santorini, Greece. We’re heading over all the way from Australia.
I have been thinking about my dress a lot, I am happy with the dress but I definetely want to add spaghetti straps.
I am also tossing up over some further alterations… including removing the gemestones from under the bust, I want a very elegant, classy, simple look, and I find the gemstones a bit tacky… I am unsure whether this is doable and whether removing them will cause damage to the lace?
I made DIY comparison photos:
I would also love a lower, sexier back, again, unsure how achievable this is:
If anyone has had similar alterations done I would love to see before/after photos and get an indication of the cost?

Those are some extensive alterations. Is it too late to find another dress with the lowered back? Maybe the shop could request a pattern change from the manufacturer to lower the back and no beading At least you wouldn’t risk ruining the lace.

Hi, too late to change my mind, I do love the dress, and if the alterations are too risky and will cause any damage than I will leave as is, but I do think it would be improved by a lower back.
Unfortunetly Mori Lee don’t do any type of custom orders and you can only buy “as is” as far as I’m aware.

Are the gemstones just sewn on or entirely attached onto the lace? If they’re stuck on the lace would be damaged, unless you can hide it with a simple sash.
The back is probably doable since it looks like a buttoned back, you can have a scalloped hem around the edges. Just make sure the straps are able to hold up the front properly!

Thanks for your reply! The saleslady at the store seemed to believe that the gemstones could be unpicked from the lace, I’m not sure how they’re attached, so I guess it’s a matter of waiting for it too arrive and taking it too a good seamstress to see what they say.
The back is a zipper with buttons, yes, the scalloped hem around the edge would look nice and ensure continuation from the front where it is also scalloped. 🙂

Your alteration ideas make pretty much my dream dress! I say do it if possible, it would really suit the Santorini vibe

Did you go through with your alterations? I’m thinking about something similar and wanted to know whether this worked out for you and how it looked?
Or if any other bride had made something similar?
