I’m in the same boat as a surprise deployment seperated us and moved our wedding date way back. We looked into different preservation methods, but decided a good garment bag would work well. My dress is neatly put away in his dress uniform bag to be cleaned before the big day. Also, we put it in a closer we rarely use to prevent damage.

I had my dress for 9 months before the wedding.  I bought a breathable garment bag and hung it in a closet, out of direct sunlight.  Once I got it back from alterations and it had been steamed (about 2-3 weeks before the wedding) I hung a hook in my ceiling in the spare room and had my dress hang from that so the train wouldn’t get wrinkled.

You can get boxes from the drycleaners with special paper that helps preserve the dress, go into your local drycleaners and talk to them about your dilemma, I am sure they will be happy to sell you the box without the expense of drycleaning it 🙂
