MacKaylarae:  beautiful dress! do you have a pic of how it fits now?

Bottom line if you’re not happy, talk to the store and ask what can be done re the fit in the back. If it can’t be fixed, they might need to reorder in the proper size.

MacKaylarae:  did you try it on at the store? I would go right back there and show them the problem so they can reorder if they need to. Are you  alterations  there?

tbh, i think you were being unrealistic about the fit of the dress when you tried it on in store. the one you tried in the store is too big for you – when it’s clipped, it brings everything “in” more. once the dress is in your size, the open back is not going to be as “small” as the too-big-clipped-in version. if you want it to fit similar to the store, you would need to order a bigger size and have some alteration magic done to bring it in without altering the back.

I would totally have the shop fix it and fix it in a week TOPS. My shop ordered my dress two sizes too big. I told that that I’d have my lawyer contact them if they didnt fix it asap. They ordered it and my dress arrived (fedex overnight at their expense) the next day.

They should consider that their business is through word of mouth. I said I knew a lot of brides my age getting engaged and looking for a shop.

MacKaylarae:  oh, that sucks! Ok, breathe and stay calm:-)

I would call the shop and let them know the issue, see if they have a suggestion. They might be able to order more fabric for you in case that would help, since you aren’t hemming at all.

Good luck, so sorry you’re stressed!

MacKaylarae:  oh i’m not saying that they didn’t fuck up – they should have told you that the back of the dress would fit differently when ordered in your correct size. but i don’t think the issue is that the dress doesn’t fit; i think it’s that you thought the dress fit differently than it does.

also, as someone who also works out (i crossfit), i think losing some muscle tone to fit a dress is a terrible idea!!! be proud of your shoulders, and don’t alter your hard work just for some dress.

Since we don’t have a photo, I’m not sure how helpful we can be. Take it to a seamstress and see what she says.  (And then update us, because that’s a gorgeous gown and I hope it all works out!!)

I am shocked that they didn’t measure your bust.  That is a crucial measurement to take.  But I agree with PP that since the dress you tried on in the store was too big it gave you the impression that the open back wasn’t as open as it actually is when the dress is in your correct size.  I would suggest talking to your seamstress and explaining what you want it to look like.  Seasmstresses can produce miracles so don’t freak out too much.  You have plenty of time till your wedding so changes can be made.
