So I bought my dream wedding dress yesterday, the Justin Alexander 8483. The salon wouldn’t let me take pictures in it until I bought it, so my brother first took pictures of me in it yesterday and I didn’t see them until last night.
Well…now that I’ve taken a look, I’m freaking out because I feel like the dress makes me look really wide. I swear it looked good in the mirror!I have really big boobs and a short torso, but the rest of me is about a size 6. Well, since the skirt bunches out right at the hips, it seems to have an effect of making me look round rather than hourglass shaped. Is this just in my head? Any suggestions on how to make it look better? I was thinking that I’ll put in a sweetheart neckline, but is there any way I could get them to get the dress to flatter my hips any better?
Sorry to be freaking out and being so ridiculously shallow!! I just can’t seem to stop worrying about it.

Yeah…the cinched waists are always really hard to wear. You do appear wider because of that. I don’t know much about alterations, but wonder if once you have your size the dress will work for you!

I think it makes your waist look tiny. It’s a beautiful dress, and I’m thinking this is a not so great picture, we can’t see your face, and yet, it’s a big close up.
Just let it rest a couple of hours and see if your perspective changes. Remember the reasons why you decided this is your dress 🙂

Agreed that waists like that are hard to wear. I think the sweetheart will definitely help. 🙂 It’s a beautiful gown, and once it’s altered to fit your body, I’m sure it will look amazing on you.

I don’t think a dress on this earth could make you look wide. It’s a kind of poufy dress, everyone will see that, not a poufy you.
I think it makes your waist look tiny. It’s not a great pic, so don’t freak out! Alterations will make you feel better.

Thanks everyone! All my bridesmaids are in Indiana and Missouri and I’m in Connecticut, so I really appreciate the feedback and support on the Bee. Sometimes you just need someone to make you calm down. My mother’s opinions for all wedding dress shopping were “sparkly” or “not sparkly enough” which wasn’t super helpful, lol.
I can’t wait to see it after alterations. Thanks again everyone!

i think a sweetheart neckline could totally help give your more shape but i dont think it makes you look round, the clinching at the waist really show how little your waist is… i was worried about that too with my dress, im about the same build as you and after i bought my dress i was like why did i not buy something more form fitting?! but it ended up looking really beautiful on and in pictures so i was really happy with it. i also altered my neckline to sweetheart 😉
