I have read through SO many of the forums on this site, so I thought it would be best to reach out to all of you instead of torturing my family/bridal party with the minor freak out I’m having. Long story short, I always saw myself in a lace dress, but within my first 5-6 dresses, I found a beautiful satin gown with a lace bodice that I loved! But I hesitated and wanted to shop around more, and it ended up selling within an hour of me leaving the store (it was a discontinued, off the rack dress). The next day, I found another dress I loved (this one lace) and ended up buying it. Now I’m second guessing myself whether I made the right choice! I really wanted a long train, which the one I bought doesn’t have.
Here is the dress I ended up buying (Dress #2):
Here is the one that got away (Dress #1):
Anyone have thoughts on the two? Is dress #1 way better than dress #2, and I should keep trying to track it down? I may be able to order it online from the states, but I would likely lose nearly $500 from the deposit I paid on Sunday… I don’t know if they would refund it.
We are also getting married in August in the Toronto area, and I was told that Satin is not good for weddings and that it wrinkles easily. I don’t really want a high maintenance dress. I also have no idea if this Satin was polyester or natural fibre… I love to dance and also want to make sure I’m comfortable on my wedding day (and not sweat through my dress). Does anyone know anything about Satin?
I guess what I’m disappointed/worried about is that the dress I ended up with will look like everyone elses’ dress (since lace is all the rage these days), and that I don’t have the long train that I really wanted. I also feel like the Satin one is more elegant/classic/sophisticated, whereas the lace one is romantic but makes me look younger.
Lastly, IF I stick with Dress #2, do you think a similar coloured sash to Dress #1 would look good on it? In the photos I’m wearing a narrow beaded belt, which I don’t think I’m a fan of… Or any other suggestions to make it look more classic/sophisticated?
Sorry for the long message. Please help!
An overly obsessed bride.

Oh, also, this is the dress I ended up buying up close (so you can see the back, etc):

I love the des you got!! And I don’t think you should add a belt to it. I love how your dress doesn’t cut you off anywhere

I like the dress you got way better! I think we all go through the motions of dress regret honestly 🙂

I actually prefer the one you got by a long shot! It’s much more interesting and intricate and like you mentioned, satin is a tricky fabric. It’s clingy and sometimes unflattering, wrinkles easily.

I think they are both beautiful, but I do love the second one.

I LOVE the dress you ended up with! I definitely wouldn’t add a belt, definitely not a sash. I feel like it ages the dress. If you’re still hoping for the dramatic train, you could get a cathedral length veil to add some length!

I also love the dress you ended up with! The one that got away was a little plain. But I think that color sash would look lovely with the dress you got!
If you’re looking for a dramatic train, you could always do a detacheable one! There are lots of different options out there for that. And as PP suggested, a cathedral length veil would also add to that.

I love the dress that you got. I also had dress regret—questioning my decision over and over again. However, the one that I choose ended up beautiful.

I actually love the dress you got. The shape of the top is more flattering, the lace pattern is more unique and visible, and the tulle at the bottom is so romantic. The ‘one that got away’ is really pretty, but it doesn’t have the wow factor that the dress you got has.

The back is beautiful on dress #1, but I don’t love the beading on the top part. It also looks like a lot of fabric and heavy to dance in. The one you bought looks great on you and I don’t think it looks like everyone else’s dress. It’s not exactly a classic style, but it’s really pretty so I would try to let it go if you can’t get a refund. It’s tough choosing just one when there are so many pretty options but that’s the deal!

Other than the fabric they seem very similar, in terms of shape, so there’s no doubt they both suit you. I’m not usually a fan of lace but I much prefer the lace one you bought.

I think the back of dress #1 is beautiful but the front is underwhelming for me. Dress #2 that you bought is really nice, and I would definitely add a long dramatic veil like others have mentioned if you want that train effect!
(I also had dress regret btw straight after purchase. Feeling good about it again now. I think it’s just normal!)

I personally love the lace dress. I’m the same way I new whatever I picked it would need lace. Do you feel like a bride in the lace one? What is it that your liking about the satin one the longer train? I’m not liking the top part of the satin one. I think the satin one looks like it fits better did that one maybe have more structure built into to the bodice? You can always add that to the lace one. Bottom line I think the satin one is just underwhelming.
