I’m thinking of making my first dress shopping/browsing appointment in the near future and have no idea what to expect. My wedding is 22 months away.. is it too soon? There is a Demetrios dress that I am absolutely in love with that I need to try on, if only to talk myself down from (or into!) it.
Also.. planning on going to V&C Bridal in Laurel, MD – any of the Bmore/DC area brides know of it?

My advice? WAIT. Otherwise there is a very good chance that you’ll have major dress regret and buy a new one. You really should wait until next fall, that will give you plenty of time to find and buy a dress.

I brought my dress a year and like 10 months in advance from my wedding date. (in Jan of 2010) and my wedding is in November 2011. I still love it till this day but I was very good at not trying on any other dress or going anywhere else too. I got very tempted when I picked up my Bridesmaid or Best Man dress (for another wedding) at Alfredo Angelos to try on their newest dresses especially during their annual sale or whatever but I didnt and when I went to make a payment on my dress I saw it again and fell right back in love with it. =)

I’m a 3 dress bride cuz I didn’t wait. But now I have THE dress. So I’d just say make 110% sure it’s YOUR dress. Don’t feel you have to settle. That was my problem. And keep in mind since you’re so far out (like me) that your dream dress COULD be out of your budget, but you can buy it used for a fraction of the cost. So, no. I don’t think it’s too early. just take your time, don’t feel overwhelmed, and have fun!

Its not too early at all. I actually just got back from a dress shop. Look at it this way, you get to take your time finding the perfect dress, you don’t have to go out every weekend trying to find a dress. Shop when you are in the mood. If you find the perfect dress now, go for it.

I would stick to online shopping only. You will end up finding and buying one earlier than you need to. Wait until you are ready timewise and look to order then!

Thanks for the advice everyone :)) I think I’m just really aching to try some on! We have so long till the wedding (it’s GREAT to see that many of you can relate to that!) that I want to indulge. We’ll see what happens, but I probably won’t buy anytime soon. Oh geez, the decisions!

@junebug12: I would definitely go shopping, but if you can, I would hold of buying anything for a little while. However, I went shopping 20 months from our wedding date and bought the dress, and so far, no regret!
