- Wedding: June 2014
Brand new here officially, but I’ve been lurking for a while. Let me give a little background:
My partner and I are not officially engaged, but we’re planning. I ordered custom made wood rings (engagement/wedding rings) that we are waiting on to be ‘officially engaged’. I’m proposing to him, and even though he will be expecting it, it will still be a surprise. My SO is super romantic, so I want it to be special for him.
Anyway, the date is set – June 20th, 2014. We wanted to wait until I get my master’s degree, but before I start my dissertation work so that summer works best. I moved to Ohio for college and grad school and all my family lives in the southwest, so summer would be ideal because they will all have to travel.
We are planning to have a JOP wedding during the day of the 20th with our parents and grandparents, and then a cookout/bbq/”reception” of sorts that evening so all our families can be there together to celebrate and have a good time.
So, with all that, it might be obvious that we’re budget conscious. I’ve been in love with a dress that’ll cost $600, which isn’t much for a wedding dress but…that’s a months rent and two car payments. I can’t spend that much. This is the dress.
I want to stick to a budget of $1000 total (not including rings, which cost that much), and I’ve fallen in love with another dress for a fraction of the cost. Here is the second dress.
Now, the first dress is custom made – so I don’t have to worry about it being sold out or discontinued. However, I also can’t return it once I buy it, and what if I just don’t like the way it fits me (the style)? So, the second dress is similarly styled from ModCloth, which I’ve purchased from before. But, ModCloth dresses don’t stay in stock or available forever. I’m worried if I wait, I won’t be able to buy the dress. I can also return or exchange it very easily.
Anyway – help me out! Is 18 months in advance too soon to buy the ModCloth dress?
