hi I’m hoping someone may have some advice – I have my wedding dress and it’s quite a constructed big dress and it’s quite heavy, I am unable to store it in a Wardrobe on a hanger. I bought a dressmakers mannequin but find they are so far unable to hold the weight of the dress and fall down (albeit the mannequins aren’t particularly great quality on eBay) has anyone been able to locate any dressmaker mannequins that are strong or any tips for storing ? Thanks in advance

I have no suggestions, just hoping for a picture of the dress. How big is it???

johanna2868 : In my research I have come across special gown preservation boxes. If you google you will see what I mean. That may be more ideal for your big gown.

johanna2868: I just took my big ball gown to a dress shop, and they were sending it away to get cleaned and preserved in a box. It takes a few weeks but will come back on a bust in a box and should not discolor. I really would like to wear it all the time, but wanted it cleaned and safe until I decide what to do with it. They said the sequins on it would start to yellow after a year, so that wasn’t worth keeping it out in the open for me.

johanna2868 : typically, gowns are cleaned and folded into a large box made for storage. Especially when a gown is heavy, gravity will take a toll even when placed on a good mannequin. If you want to preserver you dress, folding is best.

I believe it’s recommended to get dress dry cleaned and then put in a protection box like museums use. Expensive but worth it!

Thanks everyone for the advice, it can’t be folded into a box. But speaking with the the dress shop is probably the way to go! Thanks
