My SO has said not to get a “big poofy cupcake one”, aka a ball gown. I wasn’t planning on getting a ball gown anyway, but it’s something I’ll take into account when I get to start making mine.

I didn’t ask him, he volunteered this information when we were watching either “My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding” or “Say Yes to the Dress”.

I asked what his ex’s dress looked like and he said “big poofy big train long sleeves…” and that is so opposite of my style (plus they got married in the 90’s) which is a bit more fitted and sleek.  He likes the types of dresses I wear in the summertime so I am going to take elements from that knowing he’ll love it.

SO liked the fitted, mermaid type dresses but I got a poofier ballgown dress. He also thought it was crazy to spend more than a few hundred on a dress even though my dad was paying for it, but I agreed so mine was only 400.

my Fiance thinks every wedding dress looks like a “sheet” — I gave up asking him what he thought of certain dresses because he said they all look the same.  Hopefully he will be wowed when I walk down the isle!

When I asked, his answer was “not poofy” so my dress isn’t poofy 🙂

When i was looking at dresses on the I-pad while he was sitting beside me he gave me his opinion on some. I came to conclusion that he likes A-line, fitted dresses more. It kinda made my dress shopping experience better having an idea what he would like. I don’t care about anyone else but i really care about wowing my future husband.

I know his general taste so I can guess that he wouldn’t like certain things, but I’m not asking him for specifics.

While we were watching Downton Abbey he commented how their wedding dresses all look like nightgowns, so I had to assure him that that is not the look I’m going for.

@mrs_pudding_pop:  Yeah my FI’s ex had a 90’s gown… white, puffy shoulders, overly teased hair…. you get the picture

I am more then confident that he will be happy with my choice LOL

I mentioned to him the trumpet silhouette I like back before we were even engaged. I could tell he liked the shape. But the only time I ever “asked” was when we passed a bridal shop that had 3 dresses in it: a trumpet, a ball gown, and a sheath. I asked which one he liked best and he pointed to the trumpet. Idk if he made the connection to what I had said a while back, but I know he likes seeing me in fitted stuff anyway. He’ll be blown away either way!

No he did not. I had already ordered the dress before he saw one on tv that he liked. It was a slim fitted gown with a cowl neckline. Nothing like what I got (Ballgown). He thought I looked beautiful still and I don’t think he really cared. I kinda wish I knew that information before I went shopping though! Ah well….maybe we will go shopping together during our vow renewal.

    What he liked:

So I was horrible and watched Say Yes to the Dress months before he formally proposed!  He saw what I was watching, laughed and started in with the commentary.  He HATES ball gowns, anything with feathers (he said if I come down the aisle in a feathered skirt, he will bust out into the chicken dance), and true mermaid dresses.  Oh, and he hates the Pnina Tornai dress that’s sheer lace on top that every bride on Say Yes wants to try on.  This is what I got for trying to drop hints.  He does like the modified mermaid/A-lines where it’s fitted to the hip and then flows outward.  Luckily, we have the same taste in dress styles, so it doesn’t change anything.

That being said, if I could find a bejeweled, part sheer feathered ball gown for ultra cheap, I’d be tempted to get it, snap a pic and have it ‘leaked’ to him, just for the reaction to the real dress.

I’m definitely going to ask his opinion but I’m not necessarily going to go on that alone. After all, I know best what I can pull off and what I can’t!!

I know his preference will be fitted and since that’s mine as well that will probably happen!

@Kit_Kath:  Mary looked pretty in her wedding dress  (but Michelle Dockerty can pretty much pull anything off in my opinion!) but that look would be pretty odd today! I do loveeeeeeeee Downton’s fashion as a whole. I would love to be able to pull off some of Mary’s outfits.

@MariContrary:  This is too funny! Take a picture in the dressing room and “Accidentally” send it to him as a text message “meant” for a girlfriend saying something like “OMG I just said ‘Yes’ to this dress!”
