Ipods are fine… ask around for friends with proper speakers, laptops, have a list, create a dedicated ipod handler (young adult, older teen that loves music) We did it at my sister’s and there was dancing!! If you are going to do the traditional dances and speaches, you need to have a good timeline, and proper music (dinner music, dance music, ect) most music softwear will let you see how much time for different playlists. I would have one for every section of the wedding, and have a little flexability for if there is a mood of guests not liking it, the dedicated ipod person can tweak quickly.
