It sounds like you’re looking for more of a destination elopement rather than a courthouse wedding. I think eloping is a great option, it’s so romantic and sweet, and a day that is truly just about the two of you. I’m not familiar with the New England area, hopefully some other bees come along who are, but I’m sure there are some great options there! I just googled ‘New England elopment’ and a ton of sites popped up, I’d start there! I see some great options…mountaintop, beachfront, vineyards, etc.

@sashinnash:  This whole board is filled with people who had ‘weddings for two’ and went somewhere pretty!

When there’s only the two of you to consider, the options are endless!  We actually had considered 5 different states and 3 different countries for our wedding.  It was hard to narrow it down LOL.  We eventually picked beautiful British Columbia because a) we wanted to see the Canadian Rockies, b) we could drive there (2500 mile road trip), c) same time zone, d) no huge language/money barriers, e) awesome elopement package we found that was very much “us.”

Pretty much just pick a place you’ve always wanted to vacation to. research cool accomodations stay and that’s how you start.  Always wanted to see Vermont?  Research B&Bs!

If you are thinking New England, go to the White Mountains in the Fall. It is gorgeous! And an awesome B&B is Bear Mountain Lodge! Look it up! We’ve stayed there twice and are staying there for the first two nights of our honeymoon.

We got married just us.  We rented a Chapel (really cool old brick building from 1850).  We got a hotel, I had a full dress and everything.  The two photographers were our wiitnesses.  Darling Husband decorated and I took a limo to the Chapel.  It was a wedding, just very small.

We went to a local park… literally 15 min from our house.

Find a quaint bed and breakfast, if it’s just the two of you, they may allow you to get married on the grounds for free (since there’s no planning or set up for them).  Look at local parks or attractions…  go to a lake…  really anywhere you can imagine!  We found our offiant on google.

Have you considered eloping to Miami and have an intimate ceremony on the beach?

That’s what we did, and I am so happy we did!!!

If you want to find out how to plan an elopement on Miami Beach, check out this webpage from Tropical Miami Beach Weddings – it will definitely point you in the right direction!

I hope this helps – and congratulations!!!!

@sashinnash:  We are doing a wedding for two/elopement as well. We opted to go to the Caribbean (Jamaica is where we landed, at least I think…)

I’m not sure if you’d consider that option, but it combines a wedding and honeymoon together (weddingmoon!) and there are some locales that are very cost effective.

Look into eloping in Niagra falls. I used to look into that a lot for some reason.

We are thinking about eloping, too. We’ve decided if we elope that we’ll swing by the courthouse and have my grandparents as witnesses (and to make the paper work easier…international marriage paperwork is a pain) and then do an elopment ceremony just the two of us.

I’m not familiar with the New England area, but I googled some pictures from there and it looks gorgeous that time of year! (:

Consider Savannah GA! Such a beautiful place and they have a ton of bread and breakfasts that type of thing with the elopement packages available just to make it easier on planning!

My Fiancé (still sounds weird!) and I are planning an ‘elopement’ this December. We are in the Uk and just plan to have a simple ceremony at the local town hall with my best friend and his twin brother as witnesses. I am a tad confused though about the extent to which we should make it ‘weddingy’. As a very shy person with complicated family issues, it suits me down to the ground to do things simply and focus on the important parts of marraige. Still deciding wether to do wear a white dress or have flowers etc. So excited!
