Honestly, I don’t take any wedding-related expenses into consideration when I buy gifts, nor do I go back to check whether they gave me anything for my own event. That just seems like too much. Give a nice card at the  very least, and if you’re willing to spend some money, get her something off of the registry within your budget.

wifeofachef :  Can you give more details about “she chose not to have a shower”? Do you mean you offered to throw one for her and she said no thanks, or what?

I’d get a nice card and something small from the registry or small and sentimental but not on the registry.
