There are many things that I have never really paid attention to at a wedding until now, such as how many people bring gifts to the wedding vs send them in advance. We have received two actual wedding gifts so far (one from someone about to have a baby, so I am assuming they wanted to get it out of the way). Should we expect to recieve more in the mail before the wedding, or plan on someone carting a good number of gifts home the day of the event?
I must admit that I sent my first-ever wedding gift before a wedding a few weeks ago to some friends who are getting married a few weeks before I am. I am usually the one who sends a gift much after the wedding…but now I know how fun it is to receive pre-wedding packages and wanted to share the fun 🙂

We were about 30/70 on gifts sent before the wedding versus brought to the reception. We didn’t receive any gifts after the wedding (besides my aunt who left it on the kitchen counter and had to mail it to us afterwards).

@LindaD76: I hardly ever see any gifts at the wedding becuase many ladies bring gifts to the shower. Cards are mainly given at the wedding/reception.

Traditional etiquette says not to bring presents to the reception, but to send them to the couple’s home, so that the couple will not have to figure out how to get a bunch of presents home at the end of the reception. However, a whole lot of people are unaware of this point of etiquette, so you need to figure something out anyway.
