I’m probably gonna be the only person who says yes here. In our culture, parents always give a gift or multiple gifts to the newly weds even though they covered the house and wedding stuff. Gifts are usually substantial stuff like an apartment or a car, or gold jewelleries.

No.  My parents gave us money towards the wedding and threw my shower.  That was the gift.

Same as pp- their contribution to the wedding and the bridal shower are the gifts!

I really dislike that word ‘expect’ when talking about gifts. I never ever ‘expect’ gifts from anyone.

No, we weren’t expecting a gift however I accidentally found out (because the hotel contacted me about my booking lol!) that my parents have generously gone and booked/paid for our hotel for our mini-honeymoon.
