I am from the US Northeast and in all the weddings I have gone to, money was given as a wedding gift. The bride carried a “cash bag” where all the envelopes were put. Sometimes they had some kind of basket where people put their envelopes.
I am now retired to Florida and am learning that people give gifts down here. I am just curious, what have others experienced in this regard? Is it a cultural thing that is different in different parts of the country?

I read that in the northeast, you always give cash as the wedding gift. I am from southern California and have seen guests either give an envelope with cash OR bring a wrapped item from the registry at the wedding reception. But I read here at the wedding bees often that you’re supposed to give registry items only for the bridal shower.
It’s confusing but I don’t think you can go wrong either way since ultimately, you’re giving the couple something they need/want. Since it can go both ways where I live, I prefer picking a registry item as a gift rather than cash. However, it can be a bit inconvenient carrying around a boxed gift at the actual wedding day. I don’t know why I do it LOL

No one is going to complain about receiving money or a gift they registered for! I always like to send a card with a check or gift the week before the wedding so I know my gift won’t get lost in the hustle and bustle of the wedding.
