In general, I don’t like mermaid dresses or ruffles… but hot damn you rock that dress!

The dress is very pretty. If you are not comfortable in the dress though, you should look into selling it and get something that you actually love.

It looks lovely, but you already sound like you don’t really love it. Maybe you should look for something else.

@AmandaLP: Okay. I’m going to be honest here. I bought a satin mermaid dress thinking that’s what I wanted. It was at a sale, it was a good deal and my mom talked me into it and told me I looked good. It did make me smile, but I never got “that feeling”. About a month later, I was looking at pictures of myself in it and was very unhappy with what I saw. I liked the dress, I thought it was pretty… but I didn’t think it was pretty on me. I was having the exact same reservations as you. I thought it made me look bigger.

After another month and an emotional breakdown, I finally told my mom that it was not the dress I wanted to wear. I think I knew it from the beginning, but I had talked myself into it because I already had it. Well, long story short… we went dress shopping again and I found a dress that did more than just make me smile. I ended up able to sell my first one at a very minimal loss.

You want to feel beautiful and be comfortable in your dress. You don’t want to spend your wedding day worrying about how you look and risk hating your pictures. I would maybe go and shop around a bit more and see if you can’t find a dress that you LOVE instead of one that just makes you smile. I never thought I would have the “this is my dress” feeling, but I ended up getting it.

For reference, here is my first dress (the mermaid):

And here is the lovely lady that I wore on my wedding day.

You are a REALLY beautiful woman and could probably wear a bag and make it look good….I think the dress is pretty, but if you have any reservations or don’t feel comfortable, or worry what Fiance will think…then keep looking!

I’m just going to throw this out there – you don’t look very happy in the photos you posted.   I don’t expect every bride to have an ear to ear smile when they’re wearing the dress they love, but you just look downright unhappy in the dress.   The most important thing is that YOU love your dress and YOU are happy wearing it.  It doesn’t matter what your Fiance likes/dislikes in a dress – I guarantee on the wedding day he is going to think you are the most beautiful woman on the planet.  He won’t even notice or remember that he doesn’t like mermaid styles or ruffles.

If you’re happy with the dress, by all means keep it, but if you’re not happy, perhaps you should look again – but this time without your family.  Maybe go with some friends who will be supportive of your opinions, if that’s what you decide to do.  Good luck!

I’m going to go against the grain as a few have…

All things considered: your family convincing you, you not urber excited about it, your opinion on your hips/ weight, your FI’s explicit dissapproval lead me to vote get a new dress and sell this one.

unless of course you decide you truely love it.

If you love that dress wear it. If YOU DON’T … get a new dress. YOU have to love it and want it. It’s your wedding day……and your Fiance will love whatever you are in because you’ll be happy, feeling comfortable in it and love it. So make sure YOU love it!

You say you’re in love with the dress, but are you really?

If not, go get your dress 😉

Honestly, I think you look great in the dress. It hugs your curves perfectly. If you love it, I say go for it!

You look amazing in your dress and your fi will love it on you as well! However if your not loving it you should go try on a few more dresses. You might find one you love more or by trying on dresses again it might reconfirm your decision that the mermaid with ruffles is your dress!
