Starling2015:  I have really fine hair and very little, at the time I had let it grow to mid to lower back. For my wedding I hired a fantastic hair stylist that works wonders I swear…… He added a full set of extensions and a sock bun the size of my face just to add more hair and volume to my hairdo.  I too can’t hold curls at all so he did my up do from straight hair and it worked out perfectly. I had it done at 7am, the ceremony was at 4:30 and the reception didn’t end till 1:30am, the hair was still absolutely perfect.

I have collar bone length fine hair… but alot of it. Problem is it’s so fine it’s silky and barely has a wave… it won’t hold any style except straight. It’s actually disappointing, I had my hair cut super short for years and I could spike it in the back and make it have alot of volume… now that I’m growing it out it just sits flat. I’ve thought about extentions but I am a natural red head and it’s near impossible to even find hair dye that matches my hair…

I have fine hair as well. I got married last month. I had an updo, since I knew if my hair was down, any curl would fall out. I bought some hair extensions (from hair extension buy.com). I bought them more for volume than length. In my trial, I mentioned to the hair dresser that with my fine hair, clips will fall out, so it needs to be secure. The extensions really helped and everything stayed in place.

Starling2015:  thank you! This is what a trial is for, if you don’t like it or think it doesn’t look good, you can discuss why. I also own clip in extensions, love them! I didn’t wear them tho, but have worn them for updos in the past, they work wonders!

Starling2015:  Read this article: http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2012/05/why-does-hair-only-grow-to-a-certain-length/

It’s really interesting and talks about why your hair grows to a certain lenght, and why different people’s hair grows to different lengths.

Basically: “Hair length is completely controlled by the length of the anagen phase of your hair follicle. How long this period lasts is generally determined mostly by genetics, but can also be affected by hormones, and even extreme stress. More specifically, there is a chemical signal that ultimately controls the exact growth cycle. … different people, thanks mostly to their genetics, have differing lengths of the anagen period for a given body part compared to other people. For the hair on your head, the average length of the anagen phase is about 2-7 years.

My stylist suggested not doing an updo with all the hair behind your head for thin hair (I have super fine hair), but rather a side swept updo. She said otherwise I might look baldish from any front facing photos.  The pic below has no extensions or anything, but I think it looks good!
