I can totally relate! My Fiance would have much rather had a Destination Wedding in the Caribbean somewhere and part of me wanted to do it too, because like you guys we love to travel and are pretty simple people. We got engaged in St Lucia and were even considering having our wedding at the resort that he proposed to me at. My major deciding factor was what the cost for everyone to get there was going to be. His dad basically supports his whole family (brothers, cousins, nieces, gma, etc) so for us to have a wedding somewhere abroad would have just cost his dad so much money and I didn’t want that to happen. We also both really want our grandparents there and if we were going to have a Destination Wedding they wouldn’t have been able to make it. We just wanted to ensure that our family and closest friends would be able to be there and a Destination Wedding would have made it so much more difficult for them to, or they just wouldn’t have been able to. PLUS you never know what’s going to happen with traveling abroad..on our way back from St Lucia we got stuck in the airport because of a tropical storm and I was just sitting there imagining…”wow what if this happened to our guests on their way TO our weddng and they weren’t able to make our wedding!” it just really worried me. And a personal reason for us was that both of our parents are divorced, both of my parents are remarried and so is my FI’s mom but none of them get along (my mom and my dad and his mom and his dad) so having everyone on an island together somewhere that they couldn’t escape each other just didn’t sound like the best idea. haha! Good luck! Hope this helps

We went through the same thing, we hummed and hawed over where to have our wedding. When it came down to it we decided a destination wedding was for us! We booked in Jamaica and havent looked back once, its been soooo easy, the travel agent does everything. We have friends that are getting married and they fight over small details like how many tents they need, what colour flowers etc etc and my Fiance and I sit back and thank God we arent going through that. We booked in February for January 2013 and EVERYTHING is done, now we wait til we get to Jamaica and the day we get there we pick our flowers and whether or not we want it on the beach or inside and were good to go, talk about easy planning. We are big on travelling and we go somewhere once or twice a year and we just knew this was for us. We are very laid back people and didnt want to nit pick over small things, we just wanted to enjoy the time leading up to the wedding and this was the perfect decision. I cant recommend it enough, but again its not for everyone because there will be people that cant make it but because its what we wanted it was something we were willing to sacrifice to have what we wanted on our big day! Good Luck! Any questions feel free to message me!

I can totally relate too! In the end, we went with a local wedding. Our venue is not neary as picturesque or stunning as some of the other options that were out of town (or even in FI’s home city), but in the end, I knew that certain people wouldn’t be able to attend if we had it anywhere out of town. We ended up deciding based on the people we really wanted there (like elderly family). For us, the day is going to be special because of who we get to share it with.

@beckio426:  You’re very welcome it is such a tough decision so I understand! Even after booking our venue we were still debating doing a Destination Wedding. But yes just write out every single pro and con for both then compare your lists and see what will work out best for you! 🙂
