So I’m at a loss as to what to do in this situation. I tried getting in touch with my caterer to finalize rentals, the menu, and timing for setup, and I didn’t hear back from him for two weeks. I called after no response to two emails, and it turned out he was in the hospital having surgery, and now has to be on dialysis three days a week indefinitely. I felt horrible, and sent flowers, cause I really am not a heartless jerk, however I am also really worried about him being able to pull off my wedding. The venue is outdoors with no kitchen on site. He is responsible for coordinating the rentals (including setup), he is the main chef, and he uses a staffing company, so really is a one man show as far as the coordinating goes. He said he would call me early last week to go over plans, and assured me that he could still do the wedding, but I have not heard from him at all. I am in NY, and my wedding is during a very popular time. I have no idea if I could even find a good caterer that has availability at this point, but should I tell this guy I need to replace him? Or should I trust that he really can handle things even though his communication has been zero since all this happened three weeks ago. I’m at a loss.
