- Wedding: September 2013
My Fiance and are planning on paying for our 9/21/2013 wedding with a little money from his parents, and the rest will be funded through money that we have in savings. While I was planning on purchasing wedding insurance anyway, I am worried that our wedding money will need to be used for essential items (mortgage, bills, etc) in the event that one or both of us loses our job. Since I am a Federal government employee, and he is a government contractor, this possibility is very likely given today’s fiscal climate. We do have more money in savings beyond the wedding, but when push comes to shove, keeping a roof over our heads is more important than having a wedding. We’ve already paid deposits for a caterer, venue, officiant, DJ, photographer, dress, and day-of coordinator with a 120 guest estimate, so this makes it even more problematic.
I read an article on About.com on wedding insurance, and it said that many policies don’t cover unemployment (sorry, I don’t have the link)! Is this true? Does anyone know of a policy that would cover us in the event that we have to cancel our wedding due to unemployment? Better yet, has anyone had to deal with a sudden job loss in the midst of wedding planning?
Thanks in advance…this is really putting a damper on things.
