I’m completely on top of things as far as the venue, dj, officiant, dress, shoes, my accessories, starting my DIY bouquet, photographers and most of the center pieces go.
But, I’m getting really ticked off at the cake decorators who keep telling me I have enough time and to not come back until a month before the wedding!? I hate the idea of risking not having a cake but a month doesn’t seem like enough notice.
For almost every vendor I’ve had people tell me I am planning way too early but I really don’t want to be stressed to tears weeks before the wedding so I want to get most of the process over with.
Anyone else go through the same thing?

I don’t know how things work where you live. Here in Mexico things can be done pretty fast. The only thing I booked in a year advance was the venue. And that’s because I am too lazy to drive there again lol.
Try to relax, vendors are pro’s and they know what’s best! Just add a reminder in your phone maybe a month and a half before the wedding, go pick a cake and that’s it.
You are WAY more prepared than I am. And my wedding is in 31/2 months ekk!!

Have you gotten this message from more than one cake place? If so, then it sounds like it’s standard, and you are probably setting yourself up for trouble by pushing the issue- they’ll see you as a problem customer, and if they aren’t accustomed to working with that much lead time, your order could easily be lost in the shuffle.

Yeah, I think more than a month on the cake is too long! I’d worry about falling off their radar if it was longer than that. They are the pros, trust them!!

@MamaLlama: I called like three months out and the cake people said not to come back until a month out, so I came back a month out and my cake was PERFECT.
Don’t sweat it. I know you feel like OMG IT ALL HAS TO BE DONE AHHHHHHH I NEED TO CONTROL IT!
But they do it for a living and you don’t. They know how long they need to make a cake. Chill. And go 4 weeks out.

That’s kind of rude. I mean yeah, you’re a little early, but if you want things done so you don’t stress later I don’t see why its their business. I’m four months out and we just ordered our cake – to me it was such a small detail I wasn’t too stressed about it.

Maybe this is just my bakery, but my wedding is almost a month after yours and I’ve already put a deposit down for the bakery and gone over ideas for the cake. The bakery I’m using is small and they said they would book up quickly and can only do so many cakes in a weekend. Just something to consider….

@MamaLlama: omg I totally feel your pain! I got engaged a year ago and immediately started planning. By October of last year I had every major vendor booked. Every single time I talked to them they said I was doing everything too soon. I just politely explained to them I work and go to school full time. And then in my head I cussed them out 🙂 I couldn’t understand why no one wanted to take my money lol
