I think it really depends on your skin tone and the look you are going for, time of day, etc.

I tried out a silvery purple combination with reddish lips and I thought it looked great! on my skin the purple and silver blended together and made it a little bluish. and it was a pretty dramatic look

What colors do you have in mind in terms of eye shadow. Any inspiration pics?

I think the second would be great if you want more of a dramatic look

Your engagement pic is gorgeous! But I see what you mean about it not showing up as much.  I can definitely see you pulling off something in a dark purple. I’m not crazy about the purple in the second picture, it looks too light and i think with your complexion it would wash you out. I suggest you visit this website http://www.makeupbytiffanyd.com. Tiffany is a self taught makeup guru and has tutorials for all kinds of looks she has  videos on Smokey eye makeup in all kinds of colors (browns, purples, navy blue etc). Check out her website you may be able to get an idea that will help you when you go for your trial.

I am a bit of a makeup addict. but not a professional by any means. I’m going to make a few suggestions but its just my opinion, so keep that in mind.

First, I think your makeup in your e-pic needs to go up higher on your brow, and thats one reason it is not as visible. I don’t think it has anything to do with the coloring. Also the eyeliner is pretty thick which would mask more of the eyeshadow color. I would recommend a thinner line, especially on top. Also, you have much deeper set eyes than Eva Longoria so I’m not sure you are ever going to get your makeup to be as visible as hers is in that picture. Thats not a bad thing at all, but I don’t think it has anything to do with the color of the shadow.

Second, I would probably stick with a gold/brown smokey eye if I were you. While the purple is really pretty, I think there is more of a chance to be like “what the hell was I thinking” if you look back on your pictures in 10 years and are wearing purple eyeshadow. I mean no offense, because I wear purple eyeshadow almost everyday! I would do a brown smokey eye maybe with some olive green eyeliner to add just a smidge of color to your look without being too colorful. I think you could achieve the same type of smokey eye with some gold shadows and it would look spectacular with your skintone.

I am not sure how dramatic you want your eye makeup to be. I saw this picture, (minus the lime green under the eye). I has some brown in it but it’s still dark to really make the eye noticable. Just an idea

HAHAHA! OMG, that is so funny because I picked the EXACT same look! I actually bought the eye shadows and tried the look a couple of times. It’s looks really pretty and I have fair skin and was worried it would be too dramatic. I am so glad you found it. Best of luck, and keep us updated!

@Krises: My makeup artist tried to say the same thing to me “no purple, you dont’ want to look outdated! We’re going to give you a natural look”. And while that was great and everything, it was totally not what I wanted. Who cares if we look outdated? Everyone will no matter what we do. So I told him to hit the road and I’m doing my own makeup, with a lot of youtube tutorials. Purple eyeshadow is the best!

@maryan86: one more thing to throw in. Mary Kay has an online virtual makeover thing and you just load a picture of yourself and you can play around with the different makeup and get an idea of what you like =)
