I was in the same boat as you, contemplating between the two. I’m going to go with traditional after speaking to a MUA who does both.

My main reasons for choosing traditional is that airbrush will stick to every last hair on your face and make them really noticeable up close (far away in pics, it looks great), airbrush tends to settle in fine lines more than traditional, and finally, if you cry/sweat/rub off any make up, it’s almost impossible to “touch up” airbrush, whereas traditional makeup can just be fixed with a little base/powder.

Hope this helps in your decision, but if you’re still questioning it and you can afford two trials, go for a trial for both.

I prefer airbrush. I have had both done and traditional feels so heavy. I got married in 30C heat and no issues with makeup throughout the day. It stayed on while when I have had traditional, I find it irritating and needs retouching.

I’m fairly certain that my MUA did a mixture of both for my trial. She primarily used traditional makeup, but went over it with a very fine coat of airbrush to set it. I was able to touch up later with powder and didn’t find it to be cakey. We did some subtle contouring as well. I wish I had better pictures, but I think it turned out really nice. I personally would try talking to a few different people and a) seeing what they recommend and b) just seeing how their styles align with yours.

Hey there! My MUA pretty much used both. Very light airbrush to set but almost all of it was traditional and it looked great to me. I’ve included pictures so you can see how it photographed.

Also, good news…I’m in Cincinnati! My makeup artist is Karina (Makeup by Karina). She did great! I’ve also been really impressed with Makeup by Elizabeth (Facebook her).

I had a trial with traditional and HATED it, it looked so heavy and cakey and horrible in photos. Had another trial with a different artist and airbrush and LOVED it! Airbrush all the way!!

coley224 :  I’m a wedding photographer and I LOVE airbrush. I had it for my wedding, and a lot of my friends and clients have too. I didn’t do a trial, I hired a MUA I worked with a lot who specializes in airbrush. Having seen the work she posts, and that of what she had done with my own clients made me confident in her work.

I had airbrush and LOVED it. It was very hot out and it felt light and not cakey at all. It also definitely didn’t settle into my fine lines. I think the key wiht airbrush is to find someone who knows what they’re doing.

I thought the same thing about airbrush, had my trial last week and was blown away at how natural, non cakey, and light it was.  There was zero setteling into pores or lines, and it was very natural in person.  She usedTemptu for airbrush.  She then applied traditional makeup, including contour on top.  It’s possible that not air brush products are created equal (just like traditional makeup) and I have heard that temptu is the best for airbrush.  Here’s a picture of my trial for your reference.

coley224 :  I prefer airbrush. My makeup was done by Brideface which is located in Over the Rhine in Cincy. My phone is being stupid and not letting me upload any pictures or I would show you some of the photos we took. Nancy at Brideface is seriously amazing.

coley224 :  Airbrush looks beautiful IMO, buuuuut it covered all my freckles! I have a freckled face that I love and easy-going skin so I’m doing like a half layer of regular foundation on my wedding day.

Nancy at Brideface is really great, too. I know mentioned Karina and Elizabeth but Brideface always does a great job.
