I did gel for my nails and they held up beautifully, even until the end of my honeymoon which started a week after our wedding!

If you only want to keep them for a week, definitely don’t get acrylic.  They’re a pain in the ass to soak off and they aren’t good for your natural nails underneath.  Gel vs. shellac comes down to length.  Are you happy with the natural length of your nails?  Then get shellac.  If you want to make your nails longer, you’ll need to get gel or acrylic.  Lots of places that say they’re doing gel are really doing acrylic, so ask and be sure!

Miss.E.91:  Unfortunately I don’t have any of our photos back yet from our 10.25.14 wedding, but I went with acryllics for the sheer fact that my nails don’t hold polish, at all. I am the person who can manage to chip a shellac manicure in like 3 days, so I wanted to make sure my nails help up for the big day. The color I liked happened to be a gel polish so I have a gel manicure on acryllics and I got compliments all weekend on how good they looked… and they still look awesome almost 2 weeks later!

PS I had never had acryllics before and was terrified I would hate them but I had them trim them pretty short so they look natural and aren’t hard to work with.

I ended up going with acrylic, only because I didn’t know any better. I say this because I have been a nail biter my whole life, and although I tried really hard to get all my nails grown for the wedding, I still had 4 nails that weren’t in prime form. So, acrylics I went. They actually looked nice for the wedding.

I got them 2 weeks ago, and I feel that they look ugly now. They’re growing out on some nails and my hair gets caught underneath – such a pain. So if you look close, they look like I had a bad fake nail experience. I know I could fill them, but want my nails grown out a little more before doing that so I can at least have some growth to my natural nails and hopefully keep them up that way!
