missviolet92 :  our reception was at a hotel and they included the cost of the hotel room in our reception cost. We also got married four hours away from where we live, so we didn’t have much choice!

However, after all the build up I was really ill at our reception. I felt nauseous and terrible stomach cramps. I ended up spending some of our wedding reception on the bathroom floor wondering if I was going to throw up and telling my drunk husband to save my hair! Obviously the hotel had public bathrooms but I really just wanted my own space without my grandma or mum walking in on me and fussing. Nobody apart from my husband knew I was ill until a few months after because I didn’t want to worry anyone (plus everyone fussing would have probably not helped). I know I’m an unlikely scenario and I hope you’re not ill at your reception but you might want your own space, without leaving the reception, even if it’s just letting it all soak in or a few minutes alone together. So I suppose it depends on the cost of a room and how likely you think you’ll want some space.

Our wedding night itself was pretty bad so my choice would be to just stay at home where its comfortable. We stayed at the venue because it was too far from where we lived. As gorgeous as the room was at the venue, it didn’t really make a difference because we didn’t get back to the room until gone midnight after guests had left and my husband was SO drunk that he couldn’t see straight and he passed out on the bed. My bridesmaids had sprinkled confetti and sticky stuff? all over the bed so I had to take the comforter off to sleep and I was frozen all night so barely slept. When we woke up my husband was super hungover and vomiting and we had to pack up and leave so we never took advantage of the room or its amenities at all. All in all it wasnt a great night! If you’re wedding ends early ish and/or you and your husband wont be blackout drunk, then you might want to spend on a nice room but otherwise save the money and stay at home.

We went to a resort after our wedding. We had an earlier reception and wanted to make sure we spent time together and had a nice wedding night. We splurged a little on the room but it was worth it. Honestly, I think it depends on what you want out of your wedding night. If your reception is going to run into wee hours of the night and you plan on crashing right after it’s over then it may not be worth it. If you want to spend time together as a couple, have wedding night sex, etc then I think it’s nice to stay somewhere special. You only (hopefully) get one wedding night!

We spent two nights in a hotel before leaving for our honeymoon. We could have gone home but it felt more fun not to.

We had a daytime wedding then stayed at a hotel. If your wedding ends late I don’t think it’s worth it though.

We were leaving for our honeymoon within a week so getting a hotel for the night seemed like an unnecessary expense, neither of us missed it. If it wasn’t for a quickie in the bridal suite we wouldn’t have had sex at all that day. 😂 We were both worn out by the end and incorrectly assumed people would leave early bc it was a Sunday. Half our guest list was still there down to the last minute and headed out with us at 9 pm. I’d been up since 7 am and had just enough energy to toss my dress on the floor then immediately crash once we finally got home.

We just went home. Our reception venue was about 3-5 minutes from our house. We considered getting a hotel room but decided against it.

If it’s in budget, I think a hotel room is a nice idea.  I like the idea of leaving the reception and going to a very clean/organized/not-chaotic hotel room and getting room service.  I’m sure by the day of my wedding, my house will be quite messy and chaotic!

Our venue offered accommodation, so we decided to stay there in the bridal suite as we had guests also spending the night. It meant that we could see them for breakfast the next morning, which was really nice. Plus, we used the bridal suite for our bridal party to decompress and eat whilst we went off to do some couple photos and we all reconvened here before going into the reception (if you aren’t staying at the venue, you’re herded into a room off the restaurant that isn’t all that nice or comfortable).

We stayed in a hotel because our wedding was not in our hometown. Honestly, nothing happened because we were freaking exhausted (plus our hotel had so thoughtfully placed us in the room next to my parents :/). If your wedding is ending on the late side, you might feel the same way.

FWIW, and sorry if this is Too Much Information. But my husband and I did the civil ceremony privately a few weeks before our big wedding. It wasn’t a huge thing and we enjoyed our time after that ceremony much much more. We went out for drinks and a fancy dinner and then spent the night at home :). Wouldn’t have changed a thing.

We got married at a B&B and one night was included in the package. We got ready in the room and stayed there for the night. It was nice because it was a large room with a hot tub and fireplace. The hot tub felt wonderful after all that preparing and running around!!

We slept in a hotel. It was a nice ending to not have it all be over and we had a really amazing hotel room with a great view. The hotel is basically across the street from our apartment. I am glad we stayed in a hotel. The bed was so comfy and it was nice to still see everyone in the morning.
