My fiance and I have agreed to spend the night before our wedding apart but we’re having a little bit of trouble deciding what to do on our actual wedding night. Our venue initially promised a quaint cottage which has since been booked. We’re considering staying at home (why not? after a long and tiring day wouldn’t it be nice to sleep in OUR bed) but does that take away some of the “specialness” of the day? We also considered booking ourselves a room at the same hotel many of the guests are staying in. But with that comes the promise of “up til 3 am with an early flight the next day”. We’re torn. Thoughts?

i don’t think you have to stay up late if you stay at the hotel. people will respect your wishes if you make them known.

I’d definitely stay at the hotel. Fiance and I considered staying at home on our wedding night too, but decided against it so we could actually just relax and not worry about anything that needed to be done at home. Just don’t tell anyone that you’re staying at the hotel unless they ask, request that the hotel staff not give out your room number, and stick that ever-useful Do Not Disturb sign on your door. If anyone tries to convince you to stay out longer or socialize at the hotel later than you’d like, just tell them you would but you have an early flight and want to have your wits about you.
