Mine was around $300, I think.  Seemed average (although I thought it was pretty pricey).

@birdy88:  Flowers was just an example. Almost everything to do with a wedding is a waste of money if you ask me (which you didn’t, but I’m explaining my comment). We are writing our own vows but it will also be meaningful for our officiant to write a personalized ceremony for us and make it official in front of our nearest and dearest.

My point was a few hundred bucks is small beans when the entire point of the day is to get married…and that’s what the officiant does. Most elements in a wedding cost way more. I budgeted so that won’t be the case for me but I hear of people spending $75,000 on a wedding. Even if I had the money, I can’t wrap my head around doing that.

That’s crazy! I was under the impression that officiants did it out of the goodness of their hearts…thankfully our officiant will be friend of ours who is a pastor or I would have been in for one serious shock!

@lorelai:  Thanks for that reco. I literally just found out my uncle couldn’t marry us 🙁 so I’ve followed up with this company as a starting point. In the event we end up using them, would you mind PMing me your details?

I live in Toronto and we just booked our officiant last night. We are using an officiant from Enduring Promises and his fee is $325 + HST (was $295 but their prices are going up January 1). It’s another $150 for the rehearsal (optional).

I had contacted a number of officiants before booking and this seemed reasonable and on par with the others I had reached out to. Enduring Promises has an excellent online planning program that will allow us to customize our ceremony, which I appreciate.

Yes, it’s a bit more than we were planning to spend (we had budgeted $400) but after witnessing a horrible wedding ceremony recently (thanks to a super awkward officiant), we think he’ll be worth it. Good luck!

@lorelai:  Thanks for sharing.  I was going to ask my uncle but he lives out of town and I’ve realized that the logistics of asking him might not be fair (with the rehearsal and everything).

Yes getting Married in Ontario is more money and waaay more complicated than many other places… lol, which was one of the reasons that Mr TTR & I decided to Elope to a Destination Wedding in the US South (Florida is by far one of the easiest and inexpensive places to marry in IMO)

Our research proved that Ontario Officiants (Judges, JOPs, City Clerks, or Members of the Clergy) typically charged between $ 300 and $ 600 for a Wedding Ceremony PLUS the cost of the Marriage License

We got married in Florida for under $ 500 and it included:

The Marriage License – The Location – The Officiant – Bouquet & Boutonierre – A Professional Photographer for 30 Minutes – and aprox 50 Edited Photos on CD with full copyright granted to us.

BARGAIN !!

If I had done all that in Ontario, I easily would have spent at least double that !!

We’re luckily having a family friend do it, but when I was researching officiants before we knew he could do it, it was going to cost between $200-$300.

@birdy88:  I am in the same situation as you! We thought it would be alot less and we’re hearing they can be up to $500. I haven’t got a quote yet so we will see. I have sent a request for an officiant that my mom has recommended.

I am not sure if you’re aware of it.. this website http://allseasonsweddings.com/wedding-officiants

lists officiants for all different provinces. Good luck!

@sugarpea:  In Ontario? You should look into it because it was my understanding that a family/ friend cannot actually legally perform the ceremony. That was my plan too..

ETA: Unless he’s an officiant.. We unfortunately don’t know any.. wah wah.

@birdy88:  Yup that is about the same around here. We are getting a family friend to get permission from his church to extend his reach to Alberta so he can perform it. He has done weddings before. Get an outgoing friend to do it if you can think of someone, anyone can get ordained.
