Hi NZ bees –
I’m getting married in december next year at Cable Bay Wineries in Waiheke Island. Has anyone had a wedding/been to a wedding at that winery or anywhere on the island? I’m so excited and can hardly wait, but i have to because of schedule restrictions. I’m canadian btw, and fiance is aussie but we both absolutely LOVE NZ and it was always going to be the place we got hitched. Just looking for some people who might’ve already been there or been married there to get your impressions!

I am going to a wedding on Waiheke in May so can report back for you! I live in Auckland so have been to the island a few times and have only heard lovely things. Weddings there are so popluar and its really hard to get prime dates esp. for cable bay so I am sure it will be magic. Have you been on the Nz weddings forum? There is a discussion there around Waiheke Island weddings just google weddings.co.nz.
The ferries are really regular so your guests can stay on the island or come back to Auckland depending on what they want to do. Assume most of them will be travelling i,e not local so there is a lot of accommodation on the island. Have you been there yourself??
Glad you love NZ – all Kiwis love to hear that!

Hi! THanks for the replies! I’ve been to the Island a couple of times and every time i think i could live there forever! Ditto Auckland. My fiance was actually born in NZ and was there until he was about 6, and his mom decided to move to Sydney. Alot of his family is still there including his elderly grandmother…she’s so thrilled that we’re doing the wedding close to her. I am as well but mainly we decided to do it there cause it is literally the most beautiful place i’d ever seen! My parents are coming here in January and we’re taking a trip over then to do a tasting, talk decorations, ect. I’m so excited I just want it to happen now!

We’ve stayed on the island recently and I think it’s a fabulous destination wedding idea. There’s a wide range of accomodation near Cable Bay Winery but the fantastic thing about Waiheke is wherever you are staying, you’re only about fifteen minutes away from everything else. When we were over there recently there was a couple having some gorgeous pics taken on Onetangi Beach – bear that in mind if you are looking for alternative photo locations. It might also be a neat idea to print out a list of attractions that your guests can partake in – we loved walking out to Stoney Batter and exploring the tunnels!

@dynamic_duo: Oh boo – now i’m extra disappointed 🙁 we aren’t getting married at Cable Bay anymore…decided in the end that it was too difficult to plan it from Sydney. Next best thing: the Hunter valley! As long as there is wine involved I’m happy 🙂
