@FutureArmyWife12:  Sorry I am confused, when is your wedding date? March 2014 now? That is over a year away, not 9 months away. Or are you trying to get married right before he deploys?

@FutureArmyWife12:  Oh ok. Well I would say you have plenty of time, so do not panic. I am having a 10 month engagement and we are getting married in August 2013.

I would recommend nailing down a specific date, set a budget then finding a venue first and foremost. Then start looking for dresses. You can get great deals, but it takes time and if you have order one (rather than buy off rack) it may take a few months to arrive.

Lastly, look around the bee, check out free sites/tools that offer planning advice/tracking and enjoy your engagement!

ok, i was confused too but thanks for clarifying! ASAP- start looking at dresses. the lead time on them can range from a few months up to 8 or 9 months. the other key thing would be a venue. try to find one that is all inclusive (location, food & cake) because it will really help limit your stress. then look for photographers and dj’s.

you have plenty of time! deep breaths..

First.. Guest list, budget, venue, food, photog, dress.. in that order all the other details with fall into place.

Book your vendors ASAP, the start booking up a year out in some areas. Things like the dress, etc that don’t take as long can come in the next few months.

@FutureArmyWife12:  Great to hear you have made some progress. Lastly, make sure you try on the dress yourself before ordering it. I only say this because I have fallen in love with dresses that did not fit my body well.

Yes, it would be fine to send the save the dates now. I just sent mine out 3 weeks ago (8 1/2 months before), then send out formal inivites a few months before.

Oh girl, I feel ya! We were engaged in Dec 2011 and married Aug 2012. It was a bit hectic at times, but not too bad overall. The thing that added the MOST stress was procrastination and not being organised.

Get something to keep you organised (small filing cabinet, or a binder with labeled folders), along with a daily planner and a calendar you see frequently. make sure you keep track of EVERYTHING in each area.

First, you really need to figure out hown many people you want to invite, and then look at venues. Our venue was amazing in that they had a TON of recommendations for lighing, cakes, DJ’s etc. Hopefully (since you will be long distance) the venues you call will have recomendations for you.

You also really need to get crackin on finding a dress. I suggest going shopping yourself ASAP (or bring a friend who is available). Once you have narrowed it down, then plan a “final choice” appointment and bring friends or relatives to that. This may not make sense, but to me it worked wonders.

I had family come in from out of state and they could only shop one day. It took me about 5 appointments (each at a different place) to narrow it down to 4 dresses in 3 different shops which I did before hand. I told each shop it was a “narrow down” appointment and that I was NOT buying that day. They all understood, and were more than happy to write down my fave designers and make another apopointment in which my family would be there with me. The day my family came shopping came and it went smoothly. In the back of my mind, I had a feeling I would buy a certain dress. I just needed them there for “the moment” I guess. Everyone was happy they were included πŸ™‚ I’m glad I didn’t wait entirely for them because I would have been frantic choosing that day!

Giood luck, OP and remember…you can do this!

@FutureArmyWife12:  Yes, you can still send save-the-dates!

Also, I wanted you to know my Darling Husband and I went through him being deployed. If you have any questions about it, feel free to ask or PM me πŸ™‚

@FutureArmyWife12:  Wow, 4 tours is impressive. I thank him for his service. Are you doing a military themed wedding? My Darling Husband and I chose not to but he showed my pics from his friend’s wedding that was military themed and it looked so nice! I was kinda jealous after the fact LOL

To make the deployment go by faster, I sent him a themed package every 2 weeks. It was so fun, and shopping around for items to include took my mind off worrying (seems weird but it did lol), and sucked up a chunk of time I would hhave spent just sitting around doing nothing. I also joined a Weddingbee type site for military family members, which was SUPER fun and helpful πŸ™‚
