- Wedding: September 2011
Hi Bees! I have a slightly odd situation and I’d love to get some input on how other people would handle it.
I’m getting married labour day weekend (46 days!). I am very close with my brother, and long ago decided that I wanted him to be my “Man of Honor” but Fiance couldn’t bring himself to choose between his best friend from college and his best friend from high school, so we came up with the plan to “share” my brother as “Best Person” by having him stand next under the chuppah next to the Rabbi, flanked by us and the other 6 attendents (3 maids, 3 groomsmen).
This was all fine and great, but today we found out that groomsman #3 (not one of the first two friends), who is in the military but has been stationed in the US for quite awhile, is being deployed abroad in 15 days and will probably not be able to attend the wedding.
So, that leaves us with a few choices:
1. Stick with the original plan, and just have one less groomsman standing up.
2. Move my brother to just “Best Man” status and pick one of my maids to fill in as Maid/Matron of Honor (We’re all pretty emotionally low-key people so I don’t think there would be any hurt feelings or pressure. For example, I’m already planning the bachelorette myself because I do fundraising events for a living already and it’s easy and enjoyable for me).
3. Have Fiance pick another friend last minute. It would be nice, but I kind of think it’s too late (although I know at least one guy is pretty lax and probably wouldn’t care).
