Personally, if I was a Bridesmaid or Best Man and the bride asked me that then I wouldn’t have a problem with it. I’m a pretty easy-going person but I would make sure to wear comfortable shoes. However, I don’t think I would ask the flowergirl or ring bearer to walk if they are young because child can get tired, dirty, or misbehave.

@ChefDori: I think it’s a fine idea. My parents are from Central America and my mom would always tell me the wedding party would walk the the entire way to the church (usually from the bride’s house). She said it would sometime suck because of the shoes and that’s why I suggested comfy shoes in my first post 🙂

Wagons would be a cute idea to have the children ride on but strollers will work just fine.

0.27 miles is only a little over 400 meters…that’s a lap around a track, something most people can do in about 5 minutes.  I don’t think it’s unreasonable, but I might check with my Wedding Party to see if they have any concerns.

I’ve done this before in three inch heels and it was fine. I think things to take into consideration how hot it is, how far(three blocks isn’t far at all), and perhaps providing small bottles of water if it’s a hot day. Those were my favorite pictures from my friends wedding. She got married in her small hometown, and we got awesome pictures of the little storefronts, old theatre, park and water.

Uhh yah, it’s 3 blocks.  Seems silly that anyone would have an issue walking just 3 blocks.  I think having a parade from one venue to the other would be adorable.  You should get some of those streamers and have people wave them behind you – so cute!

I don’t think it’s too far at all, in fact, I think you should make an event out of it- hand out streamers and noisemakers- imagine the amazing pictures!

I’ll repost the response I posted in the other identical thread. I’m getting married in New Orleans and we’re having an actual parade (with a brass band) from the ceremony to the reception venue. That’s common in New Orleans. My distance is also 3 blocks and I may even extend it a little (or just parade really slowly) so it’s not over too quickly. Honestly I can’t even believe people would drive 3 blocks. Three blocks!!!

I was Maid/Matron of Honor at a wedding where we walked down a beach/boardwalk for about half a mile.  It was fine.  Just warn people ahead of time so they wear the appropriate shoes.

Oh yeah…I’m adding an information card to my invitation which will let the guests know about the parade and that we suggest people wear comfortable shoes.
