Attention those seeking a wedding photographer!
I personally would never recommend the company Birds I Vu Photography. We hired this company as our sole wedding photographer, based on their beautiful electronic portfolio of past weddings, and we will forever regret that decision. Not only are the vast majority of our photos of laughable quality, but the entire “customer service” experience with the owners of the business has been horrendous.
On our wedding day, we were surprised when two photographers we didn’t recognize showed up. Looking back on our contract, this was a possibility, however we were assured during our engagement shoot that while we may not have both of the same photographers, we would at least have one. This was especially important to us, as the previous photographers had emphasized the importance of them getting a feel for the venue and us as a couple. We ended up spending the majority of our “getting ready” time ensuring the photographers were doing their job, as they were completely unfamiliar with the venue and too shy to take charge, and had we not, we wouldn’t have half the shots we do. This carried on into our traditional wedding photo shoot time where our wedding party, our families, and us spent the entire two hours guiding the photographer through HOW TO DO HIS JOB (including basics like how to line up standard wedding shots…the reason you hire a professional in the first place).
We waited to let the photos speak for themselves before casting too much judgment, and we’re sad to say that we were not wrong in thinking our photos would be disappointing. Of course, as you can see from the few photos we have chosen to share, there are a handful of great shots. However, the vast majority of the photos are of the caliber of a 14 year old with a crappy camera phone, not of a professional (people half cut out, un-centered photos, too much shadow, overexposure, and the list goes on).
As if having embarrassingly bad wedding photos isn’t enough, we have had nothing but hostile and accusatory conversations via TEXT and email with the owners as they refuse to discuss the matter over the phone, or to accept any blame. The situation has not been rectified, but rather, made worse with their rude customer service. In our contract, we were promised a leather-bound photo album with prints. Due to our complaints, the company stated they would just refund the cost to us. They have now decided they will not be refunding this cost, and continue to deny any responsibility.
One of the owners did attempt to repair some of the photos with extra editing. However, unfortunately you cannot edit the fact that the father of the bride was half cut out of key family photos, or remove tree shadows from people’s faces, or capture moments that were just missed in general.
Wedding photos are forever, and sadly we will never have those iconic family and wedding party shots and will be left longing for the time that we could have spent with our guests, that instead we spent directing our own wedding photo-shoot.
