I did not have this happen.  Our photographer shipped us everything, but never asked us to cover shipping! Was this in your contract anywhere by any chance?

I think this is probably not the norm, but it’s not unreasonable. As for the cost, I’m not sure what kind of album you are getting, but if it’s one of those nice hard page flush mount ones, then that is heavy and shipping it and packaging it to keep it safe will cost money. Plus, there are handling fees involved. She has to take her time and effort to ship them since you aren’t picking them up.

@mrsSonthebeach:  Yes.

I dont charge to ship photos but I may for a high end album, they are heavy so it wont be cheap to ship. I havent had to yet because they pick up..

It actually costs me $50 to ship an album with insurance, but I would never ask the client to pay that. Talk about nickel and diming!

I build it in to the cost of my packages. 30 albums times 30$ shipping is almost $1000.00. It adds up. Was the album in your package or an add on?

Yeah it can easily cost that much or more to ship an album.  We don’t personally charge for shipping, but the amount is not unrealistic.
