Hi Bees,
I’ve just reworked my price list to include options for photography both with and without albums, but I want to make sure that the wording is clear and easy to understand. Does anyone care to critique my list of collections? Your opinion would be greatly appreciated!
The full list of options is here:

A couple of things stand out for me: 1. In your packages you use the term $3000/$2000/$1000 album. This doesn’t actually tell me what I’d be getting. Is this the value of the album? How many pages/pictures would each album contain? What is the difference in size or quality between the albums? I realise that these are a lot of questions but perhaps they could be addressed with slightly more of a description?
2. I would use the phrase “digital copies on DVD or USB drive” rather than “a hard drive”. Also, is this a disk of high res copies (unwatermarked?) and in what format? And while you wouldn’t be attributing copyright to a client, they do need to know whether they have the right to make additional prints for their personal use or otherwise share the pictures you supply on disk. You could cover this with a small “terms and conditions” paragraph at the foot of the page rather than cluttering the package description with too many words.

I think it is fairly clear, although would make clear if they get the images from the engagement shoot with wedding photos on hard drive possibly. Also make clear what sort of permissions clients have with the photos possibly. Just for clarity I would put engagement photo shoot or session. Do you want to start with the most expensive at the top? or build up to it I would be more likely to read the rest of the page and options with the list the other way around. I feel I am losing things as I scroll down page not gaining more if that makes sense?

Thank you Steampunk and Tardis for your insightful input!
Steampunk – Yes those are all really good things that I do need to clarify about the albums! I decided to use print credits instead of actual albums to allow my clients flexibility and also allow me to suggest from an artistic standpoint which album would be better for their wedding, as some weddings look great in a very large book and some actually look quite cute in a smaller book. Right now all my albums are the same from a top quality bindery, but differ from my engagement guest books, so I will take your advice and mention that somewhere in the information. I was worried about having too much information on the page, but then again, if the information I have isn’t clear then it’s useless anyways 🙂 I also really like your idea about putting terms and conditions at the bottom, to explain that the files are full-sized and that printing rights are released. That way the layout won’t get too cluttered.
Tardis – Yes that’s a great point about the engagement photos! I need to spell that out much more clearly. That’s very interesting input about placing the most expensive package first. For some reason, everyone in the industry seems to do it, but yes it does make it seem like the package is “decaying” and parts of it are falling off!! I will play around with it and see if it might look better the other way around.
Thank you both so much for taking the time to provide feedback. It really means so much to me! If you ever need any kind of advice about photography, such as printing, scheduling, how to choose the best photos, or tips for makeup and posing, please send me a message so that I can return the favor!

Happy to help. Actually, I am a photographer so have had to give considerations to the very same issues!

Steampunkbride: Ah, that explains the copyright knowledge! Cool! What kind of photography do you do?

I’m a press and documentary photographer so mainly events and reportage but I do take a very limited number of wedding commissions every year. I specialise in offbeat weddings though!

Steampunkbride: How delightful to do both documentary and weddings! You must have a great eye. I saw in your profile that you’re from England. Whereabouts? My husband is from Mersea Island but lived in London most of his life, so my dream is to photograph weddings in both NYC where I live and the English countryside 🙂

I would research ways to make your website rank higher in Google searches. I’m sure you have your own plan for advertising, but a few changes could make it easier for people to find your business online. Just a thought!

JulieSaadWeddings: I know Mersea Island because I have friends in Essex. I’m from South East England (East Sussex) which is about 50 miles from London and we have the most fabulous countryside round here. I’m very lucky to live here! I love NYC too though and spent a great week working on a story there. Also, my DIL is from the US (NM and Utah via Portland OR) so I’m lucky to have lots of reasons to cross the Atlantic!

I would suggest putting the photo on that page at the top rather than the bottom. That way people are more likely to see it.
i might reword the album credit thing – “album size of your choice with a total value of x”. When you list the album price per page, you could list how many pages $1000 gets you?
