What do you guys think about Wedding Pie instead of Cake? Personally I much prefer pie to cake and it is so much cheaper! Has anyone done this? I’m struggleing specificlly with trying to find a nice presentation for them.

I’ve seen lots of cup cakes at wedding lately, but no pies. BUT WHY NOT? A wedding is about you and your guy – not what everyone else is doing.
What about small individual pies? I’ve seen small wedding cakes for each guest before. What about a pie instead?
Do you have a local that is famous for their pies? In Lexington KY, where I’m from, it’s Missy Pies. They’ve been the pie authority for 20+ years. I bet if a bride to be approached them with this idea, they’d figure out a way to do it.
Another advantage to doing small individual pies: different flavors! My vote is for coconut cream. Yum….

We had 12 kinds of pie. HUGE hit. I think the guests must have licked the pie plates, there was that little left. There is a quite extensive wedding pie thread on http://www.indiebride.com–search for it, and you can see presentation, pie toppers, etc.
We bought glass pie plates at Goodwill, and the bakery made the pies in them for us (i didn’t want the tin pie plates).
Buying 12 cake stands to put the pies on…well, that would have been expensive. Instead, we bought cut glass serving platters and glass candlesticks/votive holders (again, all at Goodwill), and used epoxy to glue the platters to the candlesticks (as the ‘foot or pedestal of the stand). It worked like a charm, and we got cake stands of varying heights and designs!

My Fiance wanted to do cherry pie. I wasn’t a fan of the idea because it’s not what I had in mind. If it’s what you guys want and it fits in with your image you should go for it!

If you have an Ikea near you, they had CUTE covered cake plates last summer. There were $ 3 each. That may be a fun way to arrange them too.

I’m thinking about doing a pie buffet too. Trying to figure out the logistics. Are stands necessary? How much did it cost? How many pies for 150 people?
