Wedding Planner, Is it worth it?

What about month-of coordination? My DOC offered that as well. If that’s not going to cut it for your venue, ask them what exactly they need- maybe you could work with a planner to put together a customized package of services that would get your venue what they needed from a planner but didn’t go so far as to be full service? I never would have wanted a full-service planner since I wanted to do all the research and selection of vendors by myself.

I walk by there every day on the way to work! It’s a GORGEOUS venue. I thought about it but ultimately decided against it since parking downtown is such a nightmare!

ktina300 :  ooooh! We used to live downtown so we did some engagement photos there. It’s so pretty and we looked into it. I’m thinking the planner thing is new, because when we looked at it there wasn’t any requirement like that but they had a CRAZY amount of rules! I imagine that’s why they require a planner.

Before you commit to it, find out the cost of the planner and the venue. And get some catering and photography quotes. If your budget is under 30, and you’re forced to commit $6k to a coordinator, I’m afraid you’ll be in for a nasty surprise when you get to those two big ticket items (particularly the caterer. Ours catering bill probably ended up being about half our budget for 120 people). FWIW we got married outside of Houston because Houston is $$$$$ when it comes to weddings. One thing we researched thoroughly before coming to that decision was venues in Houston. So let me know if you need any help on that front!

bayoubee :  parking in town on a weekend night actually isn’t TOO terrible (and it’s free on Sundays)! As long as it isn’t during the World Series 😊

I had my wedding in Fort Worth and now live in Houston. 🙂 I didn’ really have a set wedding budget, but my parents paid for almost everything, so I tried to keep it as low as possible for what I wanted. It wound up costing around 14k in total, so I thought that was pretty good. I did not have a planner, I did everything myself. The day of, my reception venue had a timeline of what was happening, so I didn’t’ have to really worry about much. They did ask me a couple of questions, but it didn’ detract from anything and I thought it was worth not paying the extra couple grand. It depends on where your priorities are. I doubt you’d regret hiring a planner, but you might not like having to pay out the rear for one. 6k seems quite steep.

suziq23 :  Please ignore the stupid punctuation errors that my phone decided to throw in for fun. Ugh.

I hired a full-service planner about a month ago. So far, I wouldn’t really say that it’s been worth it. She’s sent me vendor recommendations, a budget, and looked over contracts. However, when we get to about 8 months out and she is helping me with invitation design, attending floral and decor meetings, developing the timeline, keeping all of my vendors on the same page, running stuff day of, etc., I do think it will be worth it.

I enjoyed picking my own vendors and planners are extremely expensive so we got a DOC which definitely helped as far as setting up/taking down of the decorations and everything, she also helped with the rehearsal & called the vendors a couple weeks beforehand.

A good wedding planner is key to a stress free wedding day so I would definitely recommend it.
I’m in Houston and used Bella Luna Bridal (Lisa Krishman) who did a fantastic job. It was only $2200 for partial planning but that was when she was still relatively new in the business so it has probably gone up since then.

100% worth it for us because we had a huge wedding with lots of out-of-town guests and vendors. I would have pulled my hair out doing it all on my own.
