We have been taking care of most of the arrangements ourselve in respect to venue, photographer, DJ etc… We decided to work with a DOC (Day of Coordinator) and possible event planning. I have “interviewed” at the minimum 10 and for the most part have found a few that I would have liked to work with. I have found there are some that few reviews and others that have many. The issue I have been having lately is that most of the ones I am interested are quickly coming up as booked or are no longer available. In the past 10 I have “interviewed” 2 are no longer available (completely understandable), one had a personal issue and the other is not responding to my emails (frustrating).
1. Aside from the situation, it has become frustrating to try and find someone especially when you are working in a budget. I often hear, “there is a planne for every budget” but when the planner is $1500-$2000, is it really worth it?
2. If you hired a planner was it worth the “investment”? Did you do DOC/ Event Design/ Partial Planning? What made your planner stand out from the rest?
3. Do you give vendors review even if you are in the inital process with them (i.e. interviewing) or only after you have worked with them for the wedding? (I’m greatly frustrated when emails don’t get returned)
4. Off topic , but did you use a videographer and was it worth it? (I am finding prices outrangeous)

Our wedding is still 2 weeks away. Our planner has been worth every penny. She’s even helped negotiate better deals with other vendors – so she’s almost paying for herself in that way too. We have a full service contract with her, but I think even a day of person would be worth the trouble.
We only interviewed 2 companies. We picked the one we liked best and who actually seemed to LISTEN to us. If you’ve found 10 to interview, you must be in a bigger city than Tulsa!
I wouldn’t bother with the people who aren’t emailing you back. Imagine how stressful it would be if you hired someone and they didn’t respond to your emails in a timely manner – that’s my PET PEEVE. But I don’t think it’s appropriate to review a vendor you haven’t hired, either. Maybe they’re on vacation or aren’t taking new clients right now or something?

jrzbride2016: FIs sbrither and sister in-law are total nightmares. His brother said he’d get fi so smashed on our wedding day that it’d be illegal to sign the marriage certificate so that way our marriage isn’t valid. He was “joking”but seeing as he was plastered during his ceremony and he can make potent drinks seem impotent… So for 4000 I get a wedding planner, ceremony and reception set/ break down, a guy to watch the groomsmen and ensure that the drinks aren’t devil’s creations someone with me. And the planer to deal with the stress that is fis family well don’t tell my wedding planner I’d pay more than that lol

lindsayE: I agree, it is a large Pet Peev of mine that emails don’t get returned. I had been communicating with a event planner and she was responding back fairly quickly. I spoke with her last week and since that call she has not contacted me. I was really interested to work with her but now its a problem. Initally, she reference someone to me and I did contact that other person as well. They possibly could have spoken and that could be the reason… I am planning to move forward with another person but I think its inappropiate to not responde to emails at all.

I had a planner for partial and full for last month…totally worth it! She booked my appointments and founs venues to match my venue…her first one was perfect. She put together our schedule and did all the finalizing with vendors which relieved my stress level. Due to health issues we has a diffwrent say of planner who was equally great. Day of making sure everything was set up…and on time. My wedding was perfect! At least as far as I can tell. She scooped up all of our stuff did centerpieces and all and returned everything to us the next day. If not for the planner I would not have been as relaxed or able to spend as much time with people the week of the wedding…I got to go scuba diving 2 days and that was worth it!

My wedding is two months away (!!) and we hired wedding planners – after initially interviewing them for DOC services, we liked them so much we hired them for vendor assistance, event design, and full planning services. They were $2500 for a team of two planners. Worth EVERY penny. There are so many things that I would have forgotten to do, and logistics in general stress both my fiance and I out. They have definitely been the best money we’ve spent on the wedding, and have played a HUGE part in keeping us chill through the process.

I agree, we’ve decided to pursue a wedding planner for at least DOC and Event design. I am really annoyed that I can’t write a review on a planner that I haven’t contracted with. They seemed to be great in the beginning with communication. I asked her for another recommendation because initally she was too much money. I did contact the other vendor she recommended but was still trying to see if I could work with this particular person. I think the vendor found out and thats why she stopped communicating with me. Either way that is unprofessional.

lindsayE: I’m looking at getting married in Claremore or Pawhuska but live out of state. Would you recommend your planner for my situation?

bywater: Yes! I live in Tahlequah and am getting married in Tulsa. They’ve been GREAT at helping me arrange meetings and set stuff up from afar. Granted, I’m not as far away as you are, but they’ve saved me so much time on the phone and in the car.
Here’s their website: http://www.eversomething.com/
One of them just had a baby and is on maternity leave, so they might be a little slow to respond to new emails, but they are awesome. I highly recommend them. I know they’ve done weddings in OKC and in places outside of Tulsa, so I bet they’d be willing to work with you in Claremore or Pawhuska.
