    I considered having one because a friend of the family raved about hers. After I looked at the prices, I didn’t feel it was worth it at all. I loved how our wedding turned out and everything went perfectly as planned. Glad I didn’t hire one!

    I looked at hiring a friend as a planner, but after meeting with me and showing her what I had done so far, she told me that it wouldn’t be worth my money since so much of the planning and coordination was already done.

    However, we did arrange for a Day-of-Coordinator that was not with the venue (family friend) and I was so happy that we did.  All the things like when to start walking, making sure the room with purses and bags was secured, and that items were where the should be was taken care of.  Neither my mother, aunt, or I was having to frantically figure anything out, we just asked her and she knew or took care of it.

    I’m interested in the results as well. My wedding is huge! (400 guests huge)..and I’ve been getting very overwhelmed..so I’ve been thinking about looking into hiring a wedding planner. But they are a little pricey!

    I technically do not have a wedding planner, but my venue provides us with a wedding coordinator. She helps with vendors, decor, and things I need advice/help with. However, I am doing most of it on my own. If I could afford a wedding planner, I would defnitely get one!

    We have a wedding planner, and I wouldn’t be able to handle the process without her! We’re planning from a distance (about 5 hours away) and she knows all the vendors, venues, logistics, and has an amazing portfolio. My Fiance and I both work very demanding jobs (manager at an engineering firm & marketing director) so we just don’t have time to take care of all the little things. I love having someone I trust on my side. Her cost is looking like it will be offset by all the savings she’s getting us with vendors!

    I’ve been trying to figure this one out myself. Not so much for the planning, but the day of coordination, ugh!

    I think it depends what all you need! Since we’re having a Destination Wedding we are having a planner because it will make life SO much easier than trying to find things and book them internationally. Overall she’s costing us $1500 and that includes booking the venue (which she has to travel to to get info for us) and booking the vendors for us. It also saves a good bit of money because she can get special deals. It will be nice to have someone there for the day of too since we can’t do a lot to set up ahead of time.

    If you don’t have to travel far and you aren’t going “all out” then I don’t think it would be necessary. I don’t think I would have bothered with a planner had we been staying home because honestly I’m not that OCD about wedding stuff and I’m pretty easy going about it all as it is. Not to mention I don’t think we would have done all that much.

    It definitely does feel almost kind of “pampering” though. I’m not used to telling people what I want and having them just make it happen either, so its actually really different and kind of nice to experience. But its not for all weddings!

    @YogaFaerie:  agree with you.

    I did not have one I can plan my wedding on my own, my venue is only an 1 1/2 away.

    If I was having a Destination Wedding I would have hired a wedding planner from that area/country since international planning is hard enough for a trip, I could not imagine a wedding!

    I plan on having one, simply as I have a very A type personality, am a perfectionist and know I will stress a lot during the wedding planning process.

    I find the cost worth it, as my sanity and maintaining a happy relationship (I’m snappy and bitchy when stressed) with my FI-to-be is priceless.
