Picking out bridesmaids dresses is the WORST! I feel so bad about making my 7 girls buy a dress they will probably hate. Also, they’re all different sizes and ski tones, Ugh I won’t be able to make anyone happy.

Venue… there are like NO venues in my hometown. and the venues that are there you have book 2years in advanced (not good for someone who wanted to get married in 8 months). Plus finding a venue that was close enough to the one of two churches I was going to get married in wasn’t fun either. My parents and I joked around that if we ever want to make money we should buy a house with lots of land and rent out said land as a venue!

Venue was rough for me becaus a lot of places wouldn’t allow us to do the set up that we wanted, but I voted bridesmaids because I regret the dress we went with and wish we would have shopped elsewhere.  Dress shopping was easy and fun for me!

Actually I didn’t vote. My wedding dress was easier to find than I thought it would be.  It was the 6th dress I tried on and it was at a local seamstress’s shop near my house. It is my dream dress and I am so happy I found it so easily… she just had the dress on a mannequin and I went in and made an appoitnment to try it on… and that was it.  I didn’t cry but I did not want to take it off, I was so happy.

Venue was trickier but still not as diffcult as we thought it would be.  We found a local site that has a lists of vendors for special events like weddings, like a one stop yellow pages shop.  We saw like 5 or 6 venues and booked the second one we looked at and fell in love with: it was budget friendly and best of all, like 10 minutes away from our house.  Plus we can bring our own vendors and decorate how we want.

With lots of research I found vendors that meet my budget. I am getting such a great deal from all my vendors, it’s amazing what some searching, haggling and compromising will do.

Bridesmaids dresses were a little harder since I had to have all my bm’s decide on 1 style of dress that they all liked… but even that took about 2 meetings to settle on.

The hardest thing for me was finding a budget friendly caterer.  It took a lot of work, calling around, internet search, neeting with 1 caterer, lots of research, 2 potential caterers that fell through, stress and a week off from wedding planning to find my caterer finally.  That was hard.

Venue was toughest for me solely because of my one requirement….on or near the water (I live in South Florida).  I learned the hard way that, while there a a nice selection of community/civic centers on the water, they were extremely controlled regarding vendors…..had to go with their caterers ($$$$), nothing taped or attached to the walls, no liquor, etc etc etc…oh, the things people don’t tell you when you’re looking!

Given that the rest of the wedding plan is simple, breezy, and fun based (think water, rum drinks, Jimmy Buffett music) the rest has been a breeze.  And, we agreed very early on no real wedding party….just a friend each, in summery dresses/shirts.

a simple, easy barefoot-on-the-beach wedding appears not to be such in my area.  Sigh.
