When I got engaged I could not wait to start planning my wedding. At first it was great lets go here and see this location and there to see that location. I visited three different venues and fell in love with the third venue. now I had to convince MR.H that this was were we had to get married at. It had everything I wanted outdoor ceremony area, outdoor cocktail hr and a romantic reception room. at first he was not convinced because the room was not set up. so the banquet manager told us to come back when he had the room set up for a wedding and then we could make a choice and he would hold the date in the meantime. so we went back a few days later with his aunt this time, and he loved it needless to say we booked it right then and there.. I’m glad we went as early as Feb. because most weekends in June 2013 were already booked. so now that the venue wedding was out the way it was off to find a venue for the engagement party.. which was a breeze I took the second place I went to, they had the date I wanted which fell on our 5yr anniversary… so I figured that this wedding planning is a breeze so far so good and the pricing was all in budget. Yeah right!! I have been to several bridal shops and I still can’t find the DRESS!! I found a dress but everyone says your supposed to cry or get emotional or it’s not your dress. Well I was neither so Im still looking but keeping that dress in mind, as the next dress needs to beat this dress.. Im so over this dress shopping bit.. I have another appointment in two weeks hopefully I find the DRESS!!
Photography has also been crazy money does not grow on trees there for I refuse to pay 5 grand for pictures and video not happening. The first sales lady was really out of her mind she showed us packages and you had to pick from a package that was it. you could not change it or take things out that we really did not need out. I told her thank you but that we still needed to shop around. 5,550 was not in the budget. The second photgrapher was great had a nice personality. they didn’t have packages everything was al la carte. so if you decided you didnt want to purchase your album now you could do it later but for the same price he quoted you now. he was about a grand cheaper. It was one photographer and if I wanted a second one it was 600 more (not needed). Balance would be due a month before the wedding.. which I thought was a little crazy not even the venue is asking for the balance a month before the wedding. So I booked a third appointment some where else and I guess three is a charm. Because I decided to book Her. She was very personable her work was great. she gives you printed proofs without the company name on them. a dvd with pictures, an online site for your guest and you to view pictures. TWO photographers,a videographer. 75 percent due day of the wedding and the balance when you pick up your proofs. and she feel in about the same price range of the second photographer. Now its of to find a Dj.. and have another heart attack on pricing

Picking out bridesmaids dresses is the WORST! I feel so bad about making my 7 girls buy a dress they will probably hate. Also, they’re all different sizes and ski tones, Ugh I won’t be able to make anyone happy.

Venue… there are like NO venues in my hometown. and the venues that are there you have book 2years in advanced (not good for someone who wanted to get married in 8 months). Plus finding a venue that was close enough to the one of two churches I was going to get married in wasn’t fun either. My parents and I joked around that if we ever want to make money we should buy a house with lots of land and rent out said land as a venue!

Venue was rough for me becaus a lot of places wouldn’t allow us to do the set up that we wanted, but I voted bridesmaids because I regret the dress we went with and wish we would have shopped elsewhere. Dress shopping was easy and fun for me!

Actually I didn’t vote. My wedding dress was easier to find than I thought it would be. It was the 6th dress I tried on and it was at a local seamstress’s shop near my house. It is my dream dress and I am so happy I found it so easily… she just had the dress on a mannequin and I went in and made an appoitnment to try it on… and that was it. I didn’t cry but I did not want to take it off, I was so happy.
Venue was trickier but still not as diffcult as we thought it would be. We found a local site that has a lists of vendors for special events like weddings, like a one stop yellow pages shop. We saw like 5 or 6 venues and booked the second one we looked at and fell in love with: it was budget friendly and best of all, like 10 minutes away from our house. Plus we can bring our own vendors and decorate how we want.
With lots of research I found vendors that meet my budget. I am getting such a great deal from all my vendors, it’s amazing what some searching, haggling and compromising will do.
Bridesmaids dresses were a little harder since I had to have all my bm’s decide on 1 style of dress that they all liked… but even that took about 2 meetings to settle on.
The hardest thing for me was finding a budget friendly caterer. It took a lot of work, calling around, internet search, neeting with 1 caterer, lots of research, 2 potential caterers that fell through, stress and a week off from wedding planning to find my caterer finally. That was hard.

Venue was toughest for me solely because of my one requirement….on or near the water (I live in South Florida). I learned the hard way that, while there a a nice selection of community/civic centers on the water, they were extremely controlled regarding vendors…..had to go with their caterers ($$$$), nothing taped or attached to the walls, no liquor, etc etc etc…oh, the things people don’t tell you when you’re looking!
Given that the rest of the wedding plan is simple, breezy, and fun based (think water, rum drinks, Jimmy Buffett music) the rest has been a breeze. And, we agreed very early on no real wedding party….just a friend each, in summery dresses/shirts.
a simple, easy barefoot-on-the-beach wedding appears not to be such in my area. Sigh.
