As I’ve said in a zillion other posts, I’m a graphic designer. Before getting engaged, I had always thought of my wedding as the ultimate design project. Save the dates, a wedding website, the overall look of the ceremony, the invitations…the list goes on and on of things that I thought would be a visual expression of not just my art style but of my relationship with my future husband. In my mind, my wedding was going to be the bomb, artistically.
Now that I’m in the thick of it, it’s really sad how disenchanted I am. For example, I just finished designing a STD for a good friend of mine who is getting married right after Fiance and I (they got engaged the day before us). She was SO excited to see the design. Like, I WISH I could get that excited about things involving my wedding. Same thing with the DJ and the cake and all that. What is wrong with me? Did anyone else go through this?

Why aren’t you excited? Are you feeling stressed? Do you not know where to start?

@AlwaysSunny: In the beginning I was excited. But now I just think I have so much on my plate that the wedding is just a stress and not a joy to plan. I really don’t know. I have my ceremony venue, my reception venue, bridesmaids dresses, my dress, cake, photographer and videographer locked in. My website is up, and my Save-The-Date Cards are being made. The registry is like halfway done. I think some of it might have to do with Fiance not being really involved, but still wanting a say in everything. I really don’t know…

Have you been following Miss Dragon? She’s a photographer and Mr. Dragon is a graphic artist. I bet you’ll identify with some of what she has posted on the blog.

I just saw this and girl, I can relate. Both on Fiance having opinions and not being super-involved, and on not being that excited when you see your final product done.
Mr. D and I just had one of those furious typing Skype arguments be we couldn’t agree on invite designs (and we’re seriously only as far as looking at paper on the internet, so, it’s not going well). We fought over photographers because we’re so picky, too. I spend ages designing our STD’s alongside Mr. Dragon and now that they’re all packed up and almost ready to mail out I feel meh about the whole thing.
It’s hard stepping back and letting someone else do it and it’s suprisingly hard doing it yourself! If you want to vent I’m all ears. 🙂
