My fiancee and I originally planned to have a “small” wedding. After making a list, and discovering that my family alone, is 80 people, this “small” wedding may not happen after all.
We were thinking of going ahead and getting married away somewhere, and sending out invites and having catering and a huge party the following week. Has anyone ever heard of doing this? Does this seem odd?

I’ve heard of TONS of people doing this! I think it’s an awesome idea, and it’s something my fiance and I seriously considered! Just make sure that when you send out invitations that you’re clear that it’s just a party and that the wedding has already happened!

My maid of honor’s brother did this a few years ago and I had a pair of friends do that as well. I sort of wish that we’d have been able to do so as well, but it didn’t happen. I don’t think it’s a crazy idea at all! Both of the celebrations were more casual and the bride and groom had a better chance to focus on each other on their big day and enjoy a party with their friends and family later. 🙂 Best of luck!!!!!

Not at all weird. You should do whatever is going to work best for you and your fiance!
