The way you first wrote it is how I’ve always  seen it for divorced parents. I’d go with that. I think listing each parent separately under the different headings is too wordy.

You don’t really need wedding programs… problem solved!

Well, it doesn’t matter since hardly anyone reads programs and they’ll go in the trash at the end of the night except for maybe one you keep.  So if he’s that insistent on them being on one line, then I would just do

Bob Smith and Mary Smith

By not putting the “and” between the first names and putting their last names separately, it makes it a little more clear that they aren’t a couple.

vgrimes93 :  skip them altogether. Biggest waste of money.

Skip the programs. Problem solved. Put the money towards something that matters.

vgrimes93 :  Do your guests not know who your parents are? Why is this required? Seems like a lot of unnecessary stress.

I would ask his parents how they would like their names to be listed, while noting your FIs preference and stating that if only one of them turns out to be comfortable with the single line idea, you’ll plan to list them on separate lines.

Other than programs being a total waste of paper (no one cares to read them), I would go with the first option. It sends a clear message and doesn’t waste as many lines as 2 and 3.

vgrimes93 :  Oh ok I missed that in your post.

Then #3 for sure. 2 is super confusing, you have to go by bride/groom not by mothers first and then fathers

vgrimes93 :  You’re not including a photo with the program of these people, so even with their names it doesn’t help your family to know who they are. People will introduce themselves just fine. I think a program is so useless and especially in this situation where there’s a caveat. Lose them.
