I’ve already purchased a ton of stuff for our wedding, that isn’t until fall of 2012. Plus, the ring isn’t even on my finger yet (it’s in the house, and I’m expecting it might happen on our Thursday Date Night). I know I’m not going to change my mind on colors, as I’ve had my color scheme picked out for longer than I can remember.
Here’s what I’ve purchased in the past week:
A Cricut Expression Machine ($140 off at Michael’s this week). I’ve been stalking them on ebay, and I got a brand new one for relatively the same price.
Clutches for my bridesmaids ($12 each)
Free business cards from Vistaprint for our guestbook ($5.95 for the shipping)
Business card envelopes for our guestbook ($38). I’m making one of these in three shades of blue:
Plus, I’ve already started my DIY “In lieu of favor” cards and purchased stuff to make headbands for my bridesmaids.
I guess it’s good to start early, but I’m already going crazy. At least the costs of all the little things will be spread out over two years.

That envelope guest book is adorable! I would try to hold off on purchasing too much this early because you might change your mind and that’s money wasted.

As long as you don’t change your mind then it is wise to spread the expenses across two years. Just don’t change your mind…haha! I think that’s the hardest part with Wedding Brain and all. Maybe limit your purchases to more generic stuff. Stuff that isn’t custom and can be used regardless of whether your mind changes or not.

Well, the Cricut will definitely be used, regardless, and that was by far the most expensive purchase. I plan on DIYing everything paper related for the wedding, and I know that can take a ton of time. The cost of the cricut will be recouped by money saved on everything I’m going to DIY, and it will be used by all the student organizations I’m in for school over the next year.
I’m not planning on changing my mind as far as colors go (anything in the blue color family), and the Donation cards won’t be changing because it is a non-negotiable for me. We are making a donation to an organization that is for prevention of teen suicide in memory of my sister.
And the clutches I ordered are super cute. I got a different style for each of the BMs and one for my mom and his mom. If I don’t end up giving them to the girls, I’ll use them myself because they’re that cute, or I’ll give them to my sisters and moms for Christmas gifts.
And if I end up not liking the guestbook, I’ll sell it to someone else.

I am in the same boat as your are! I can’t gove you any tips to stop but I can sympathize!!
I am even farther out than you are. I have bought paper and envelopes in our colours (not too bad I can use them anyway if we change anything). Also I bought my dress!! Haha It was totally perfect and only $100, I figure that it was too perfect to pass up (in case I couldn’t go back and find it later) and if I do change my mind then it is only $100 and a lesson to myself. And I can sell it to someone else if need be.
I ‘shop’ for all kinds of stuff, but it is more of a search for things that are really fantastic. I won’t buy ‘just ok’ shoes because I am feeling the crunch, I will wait until I come across the ones that really make my jaw drop. Also I have GIANT folder full of all my treasures.
